Defiance, Deidre Hall was on the show Hacks. As a #GenX guy I had to say "Oh cool! Electra Woman!!"
No one knew what I was talking about. I feel so alone in this world sometimes 😏
KimPerales, Many #GenX & #Boomer men are Republicans & some are anti-vaxxers, but a few women boomers are largely responsible for spreading #misinformation:
A small group of committed “supersharers,” predominately older R women, were responsible for the vast majority of the #fakenews in the period looked at. They promoted & shared links to vaccine hesitancy & politics-flavored fake news. 2,107 reg. US voters accounted for spreading 80% of it during the 2020 election.

msquebanh, Some of you fellow #GenX folks forgot that this is still important to practice:
Question all authority.
Greenseer, @msquebanh Especially the authority that you are told is on your side. Questioning the enemy is easy
msquebanh, @Greenseer Absolutely agree 👍
Fury, Got on bus this morning and the driver charged me the under 19 years old student fare 😂 winning today already! #GenX
anathema_device, @Fury omigod :)

Airplane! has the finest script ever written
chriswho, @TechBean Airplane is a perfect comedy as the Princess Bride is a perfect adventure.
I don't make the rules.
paul, The Golden Age of K-Mart
Before the days of "Super Kmarts" and "Big Ks," there was just Kmart.
The first Kmart was opened in 1962, and by the mid-1970s, we were all shopping there.
Revisit the days of Blue Light Specials, Kmart Cafeterias, and random wood-veneered merchandise scattered in aisles throughout the store.
Stick around for the musical montage featuring two unforgettable K-mart jingles complete with in-store announcements
#GenX flashback
ahimsa_pdx, @paul
Yeah, my family went there a lot! Here's one of their TV / radio jingles (from memory, so it may be off a bit):Kmart is your savings store,
Where your dollar buys you more,
They give your dreams a helping hand,
at Kmart stores they understand.
Kmart is the saving <pause> place!EDIT: Found this older recording. It doesn't have the middle lines. My memory is probably from an ad played in the 70s or early 80s.
wjmaggos, Back in my day (class of 96), you kinda had to choose. Most kids liked them all but was your favorite band Nirvana, Soundgarden or Pearl Jam? I wouldn't have said it then but Nirvana wanted you to think they were cool. Edgy. Soundgarden just wanted to make good music. Pearl Jam was about community and purpose. Fuck Ticketmaster. #GenX

amerika, Wait, Bon Jovi? ...musically not bad, a little "schmaltzy" for my taste, but compared to Bryan Adams etc probably pretty restrained.
No AC/DC? Surely you have at least one Metallica album in your collection.
wjmaggos, yes I do. pretty wide taste but what was interesting about the 90s imo was that the mainstream opened up, before the internet made access easier. I think it also got better because it basically became more democratic. less payola.
but I still care about what most people are listening to. I want that to be higher quality, just like I want the journalism most people consume to be better. it matters if we have to live with each other.

TechBean, I'm surprised how little love we're seeing for The Legend of Billie Jean
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0089470/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk
gedeonm,
CanadaMan, @gedeonm I remember playing this on a n64 re-release, my mother use to show me how to dupe the ship to get doubble rockets lol
liztai, How feral were Gen X kids?
Well, I taught my younger sister to jump off the second floor of the house to land in the couch below. I mean sure, just an inch off target and there's be a few broken bones. But hey we survived.
The couch didn't.
Ok, so I claim my feral badge, I think I totally earned it.
ferricoxide, Was always more a Hawaiian Punch fan.
Probably no coincidence that Fosters gained popularity around the time #GenX was reaching legal drinking age.
jadugar63, @ferricoxide
Not Hi-C but had a different brand in East Africa. #nostalgia but older me realizes it was flavored sugar.

AnguaDelphine, First time round, also Jon Pertwee.
I vaguely remember the regeneration into Tom Baker.
Missed most of Davison & Colin Baker 1st time round.
TechBean,
culagovski, @TechBean Cleopatra is closer to "I Love Rock and Roll" than to the construction of the pyramids.
j, @TechBean Thank you for reminding us how old we're getting to be. 😆
serpicojam, #GenX question:
In the #70s we had a toy for making #pottery that actually had a potter’s wheel. The commercial for it had a song that went something like this:
🎶 “you take a ball of clay / you pinch it with your fingers / you put it on the wheel / and make the wheel go round!” 🎶
This is all I can remember. YouTube and Internet searches haven’t helped.
Can any of you wonderful people tell me what the name of this toy was?
Thanks!
j,
serpicojam,
flargh, me: wow, Steve Albini died. Legendary producer of one of my favorite albums, Pixies' Surfer Rosa.
them: I've never heard of the Pixies
me:
agiletortoise, @flargh where is my mind?
anubis2814,
box464, My brain decided to bring up this memory for no reason today. Cereal box records. Back in the day, kid cereals would add cardboard records on the back of their boxes. You could cut them out and play them on any normal record player. The grooves were made with thin plastic and songs were pretty short.
Sound was horrible. But fun.
Ehay2k, @box464 Thanks for reminding me. This was an epic marketing ploy by the cereal makers.
And those "records" probably caused a lot of people to buy new needles for their record players!
box464, @nicholashead This one? Now I absolutely do, had totally forgotten it!
TechBean, (edited )
MizFidd, @TechBean Now I have that damn Rod Stewart song in my head for the first time since junior high.
KateOfMind, @TechBean Of course, I'm so Gen X that I heard the Cowboy Junkies version first...
TechBean, (edited )
judah, I am "playing Colossal Cave Adventure on a dumb terminal, at my dad's office, on the weekends" years old
TechBean, For the uninitiated, "Star Command to Star Cruiser 7" is a reference to what remains my all time favorite video game, Star Raiders
markarayner, And don't get me started on the whole no physical menu thing.
jeffowski,
dldnh, Yes you may wish me a happy National Cherish an Antique Day, thanks for asking!
