Imperor, The youtube algorithms have blessed me with finding a small (sub 20k subs) creator that does some amazing work.
Go give them some love!

masukomi, (edited ) I have an idea in my head to CNC a “better” pen, and pencil for myself.
However, after poking at the idea of a better pencil, I think a squishy #3DPrinting TPU sheath around the barrel may be a perfectly decent solution… for the pencil. I’m still making a better pen. ;)
RichiH, (edited ) I haven't laughed in any YT video much less any #3Dprinting video recently, but the #micronics people, who get their own name wrong once, achieved it.
It's a good and interesting watch: https://yewtu.be/watch?v=OQ6DYJtn7Bw
It seems Google broke Invidious again so use https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OQ6DYJtn7Bw until it's fixed
shanselman, Cheap vs midrange 3dprinters https://www.tiktok.com/ #3dprinting
mitsuhiko, @shanselman I have an A1 and between that and the P1S I think the better choice as this point is the A1 unless you need to print ABS/ASA and similar materials. The A1 has hot swap nozzles, flow calibration and the AMS lite feels much more resilient and compatible to different filament brands compared to the AMS.
rasterweb, This story just makes me sad for so many reasons…
➡️https://www.cnbc.com/2024/05/28/fourth-graders-before-school-side-hustle-3d-printing-toys.html
t_l_wood, @rasterweb @poleguy I was just about to go to bed and I think my brain filled in the word you really meant so I didn’t even notice 😂
poleguy, @rasterweb Sure enough, now I see that you can click on the "Last edited" and read the original. My eyes have always glossed right over that. Good to know!
Kinda like most normal people gloss over the misused word... You could have said "I'm hoping this radicalizes the kid and in ten years he eschempses the evils of capitalism." And it would have been perfectly clear.
masukomi, In the heater compartment of the 🚑 we have 2 holes from the old heater install.
At the moment they're just covered with duct tape to keep water from getting in, but I finally got around to modeling a custom hole plug for them.
It'll print in this orientation in flexible filament, then get flipped over, shoved into the hole, and glued in place.
If anyone's got suggestions for glue that'll stick well to rough brushed aluminum I'd love to hear them.
masukomi, Well that fit… perfectly?
the little double-chamfered bit on the end of the cylinder was slightly bigger than the hole, BUT the TPU was just flexy enough to let me shove it through, and then have it expand and hold it snugly in place.
Now to print out a second one.
neotoy, Made a fancy hinge today based on one of my favorite butterflies: https://www.printables.com/model/901883-swallowtail-hinge-print-in-place #3dprinting
linux_mclinuxface, :sigh:
In the #3dPrinting world, #OpenSource is so misunderstood.
There was a video comparing the Sovol #SV08 (GPL3) to a Troodon kit. The creator concluded that one place the SV08 definitively had a leg up was that it was open source.
About a week later the same creator posted a google drive link with the STEP file for the Troodon saying "Look, Troodon is open source."
Open up the STEP file in FreeCAD and the license metadata: "All rights reserved."
tripplehelix, @linux_mclinuxface You mentioned the code was a google drive link, that's not open source.
linux_mclinuxface, @tripplehelix and it was a single file, no license file.
You could distribute open source via Google Drive, but you’d still need the license file. It would be very weird, but you could.
rasterweb, Looks like the Prusa shit itself again…
piofthings, @rasterweb ah! I was trying to figure out if that’s a silicone casing gone wrong… and wondering why is the nozzle oozing sideways… it is essentially a large lump of failed print ☹️☹️☹️
GeekAndDad, @rasterweb Yikes!

ottaross, (edited ) Some #3Dprinting today. I haven't printed #TPU in ages, but need some of these little bumpers to support a glass top on a patio table.
TPU is a slightly soft/flexible urethane plastic that can be tough to print (for me anyway). Good results today tho'. The advice to print hotter, slower and a little thicker than PLA seems to work pretty well.
The two-part approach worked well for me to be able to squeeze these into mounting holes. As one piece they don't deform enough to get thru the hole.
LillyHerself, @ottaross Foam rubber (actually mainly plastic nowadays) is aerated is it not? You would have to have a material that would chemically reproduce the "bubbling" process, and you would have to print it smaller and let it expand as the bubbles are produced?
ottaross, @LillyHerself indeed - would be challenging
masukomi, Ooh, improved error messages in the new version of Bambu Studio. Unfortunately the button is "i've fixed it" and there's nothing for "how do i fix it"
[edit: i'm not asking how]
masukomi, I ended up needing to completely disassemble the extruder, but once i did there was nothing left to hold it in and it just fell out.
Of course THIS happened when i tried to use it next.
masukomi, Is it trolling me?!
dominucco, LOL my cat is like “what new devilry is this?” #3DPrinting
stooovie, @dominucco that's where the problems start

masukomi, Bambu Studio claims this is going to work. I have my doubts, but I'm willing to give it a try.
Natanox, @masukomi @logicalmoody I'd be really curious how well this prints on a Prusa MK4 or MK3S with enclosure. 🤔
masukomi, @Natanox @logicalmoody I honestly don’t think the problems have anything to do with a printer, although I do think that a bed slinger would be worse because I theorize it would induce more wiggle.
From my testing last time ( see the toot i linked in my reply to myself), it really does seem to just be an artifact of those two skinny sections
dominucco, Busting out an old favorite! @LulzBot #3DPrinting
masukomi, I hate the standard stair-step look of a #3DPrinting angled surface. Watching a "Need it Make It" video triggered an idea.
By making the surface a shallow sine-wave we can introduce a wavy pattern in something that still looks & feels like a "flat" angled plane.
Second image shows the dimensions I found most visually appealing.
a screenshot of a sketch of the sine-wave. It is 4mm wide & 0.3mm high. That's it.
masukomi, i should note that the angle of your inclined plane plays into the look a lot. As with the stair-step look, the more shallow the angle the farther the waves will be spread from each other.
I would suggest that you're probably going to have a lot more value from playing with the width of the sine wave than the height.
If the sine waves get much taller than this, the eye starts noticing the ridges more than the pattern.
masukomi, 🧵 using sine-waves to avoid stair-step layer lines continued:
Attempting to avoid the stair-step at the bottom of the pen holder in @noted I took the sine-wave, and revolved it into a cylinder, then subtracted it.
Then i used the "loft" feature to blend from wibbly in the pen holder to flat at the top
The result is fascinating.
This GIF only hints at how it moves in the light & this is with the most matte filament I own.

16bitvirtual, I am experimenting with a new #stitching technique for our new prototype GLoA E-reader case covers. I have fallen in love with the results. Still can’t believe this is #3dprinted plastics! #lasercut leather and hand stitched. Needs some minor adjustments but progress is good.

graphite, is the ender-3 s1 plus a good printer? #3dprinting
graphite, @RL_Dane hmm... the mk4 seems really nice, but it's also quite pricey...
but i think it's worth it to support a company that open sources so much stuff.
RL_Dane, Yeah, that's the thing. It's 100% produced in Europe, and the price shows it.
DrFerrous, Overnight print is off to a solid start. I haven't done one this big in a while and I'm excited to see how goes the gradient filament. Also, the estimates for how long this print will take are crazy. Maybe it will still be running at 18:00 tomorrow?? That's not what Cura said. But we shall see!
DrFerrous,
sldrant, @DrFerrous @pbl0m @suvidu iirc octoprint just counts layers, not detail per layer
micah, @kim is going to see her nieces tomorrow so I busted out the 3D printer so she could be the best bad influence possible :neofox_wink_blep: :neofox_peek_knife:

geerlingguy, It's gonna be one of those kind of days #3dprinting
Craftycat, @geerlingguy 😭😭
icircuit, @geerlingguy @jan @octoprint quick question, what's the printer model?
As for the bltouch, i highly recommend you install it and hook it up to octoprint, as it would allow you to see how bad the bed is calibrated in the gui.
