@lilliassh @bookstodon I keep wondering why nobody talks about it. It was nominated for a Hugo and is sometimes mentioned as being influentual, but outside of that I see little chatter about it.

@bookstodon The style, the narrative voice and a lot of dialogues come off as being way too dry in my opinion. I think that's the reason why this does not click with me. The setting and the linguistic angles it takes are impressive, but I never feel enticed by those factors to read even more. And I severely doubt I will pick up the second part.

@theotherotherone @bookstodon I totally get it with the tiring out when reading one book all the time. There are very few books where I did not need a short story or Novella to break it up.

@ampersand @bookstodon I find mixing fiction and non-fiction to be quite easy. And yes, mixing physical and ebooks makes sense to me too.

I manage to read a chapter per day of A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine. It is a good book, but the prose somehow is difficult to read... at least to me. Well, at least that way I'll manage.

That long rumored Quake 2 remaster is finally out and I played it a bit on my Series S. I was looking forward to this, since I planned on playing some classic FPS for a couple of years.

Since my initial plan, I played and completed the first three Doom games and the original Quake, before the new ports hit. I put Quake 2 off because it was kinda hard to get running properly on PC. But this new version by Nightdive is exactly wanted: complete, slightly updated and with a few quality of life features. I'm going to enjoy this!

@elysegrasso @bookstodon does depth imply grimdark? I think Becky Chambers last novella duology showed you xan have cosy entertainment mixed with some deeper elements.

Developing story around the Kerch Bridge in Russian-occupied Crimea.

According multiple sources the bridge was under attack and hit by two strikes at 03:20am local time. The lack of anti aircraft fire suggests that it is was a naval USV attack.

It is still unclear how severe the damage is but the rumors say that one span of the car bridge is gone. Ferry services have been suspended, too. The light of the bridge is partially turned off.

I know I have never talked about it on here, but I love #themeparks and #rollercoasters. Which is why I am very much looking forward to my vacation in the Netherlands. Haven't been there in a long time, even though it's pretty close. Going to visit both #Efteling and #Toverland for the first time!

Played my first game of ticket to ride in a while. It's a great game after a stressfull and intense day. Not too taxing but interesting enough to play it every two or three months.

Be it Bookwyrm or storygraph: both tools are worthless if you read books in any language but English. Since I read books in four languages, even goodreads fails to be able to track all of them. Guess I go back to just keeping notes on my smartphone.

So, what are your ethical alternatives to Diablo IV? (Yes, I am bringing this up now because Activision Blizzard is a nightmarish place to work for and has many abuse allegation, among other things.)

I want to mention Book of Demons. It's a fund cardgame spin on the original Diablo that let's you choose the lenght of the dungeon to accomodate for how much time you have to play the game.

Even after having completed Final Fantasy V, I still don't really know where I stand on this game.

I wouldn't say that I didn't enjoy my time. But I felt it was lacking in many departments. The pacing is all over the place, characters are super flat (especially the main protagonist), the villain is paperthin. The twists are fun enough and the job system is at least interesting, but undercuts actual characterprogression, so combat never felt quite right.

I'm in the final stretch of Final Fantasy V and loosing my patience with the game. Even though I am using boost mode, this part is super hard. Battles and dungeons tend to be super annoying and I really don't know if I want to keep going.

Time for a new #introduction post, since this is a new server for me.

I'm from Luxembourg and I have been into Manga and Anime since 1999. Yes, I'm old, don't remind me.

I read and watch a huge variety of different manga, so it would always feel incomplete to describe my taste. Most would say I'm into trash.

I do most of my mangareading in German and English. I will try to keep my toots in English though.

I'm into gaming too, of course. I mostly focus on #JRPG. My main franchises are: #Persona, #Yakuza and #FireEmblem.

I'm also a writer. My books are both in German and Luxembourgish, so I keep my posting about that to a minimum.
