How it started: I wanted to render a checkmark beside bird names as as their links were visited.

How it's going: I'm deep in a CSS rabbit hole of state and pseudo-element interactions. Some properties update with :visited while most do not.

Overall on my bird website, I've been trying to use pseudo-elements for decoration, but in this case, I think I'll have to add a real element if I want the checkmarks.

She was the second lifer of the day.

This fluffball found a fish is very serious about not sharing.

Another sanderling enters the picture. They aren't after the fish for the moment, but the other bird isn't taking any chances. There's a bit of tension in this photo. The fish-bearing bird is watching the blurry bird in the foreground. Their wings are pulled out slightly—the leading edges aren't hidden behind cover feathers. The bird in front seems oblivious; they turned and scurried away shortly after.
The sanderling takes their fish and runs up the beach, away from the camera. Sand wand water splash in their wake. They're very round from behind.

A little while later, zoomed out, the sky is pink and purple. The buildings are beginning to darken, but their windows are reflecting the colorful sunset and its pinkish-red light. The top of Salesforce Tower is deep purple It blends into the blazing orange sunset across most of the building's facing side.
Toward the end of sunset, soft and warm pinkish light adds blush to the rolling cityscape. St. Paul's Catholic Church is in the center with Noe Valley, the Mission, and Bernal Heights in the midground. The sky is mostly cloudy with soft highlights and shadows. In the distance, low clouds hug the hilltops across the Bay.
Bernal Heights is in shadow, but it still glows in bounced light from the end of sunset. The folks on top of the hill had a good show!

@DemocracySpot Thanks Eddie—yes, the solid-appearing bit at the top is a giant LED display with seasonal animated art installations. It’s a fun addition to the skyline.

I don’t remember giant crazy groups of 100’s of #crows flying around together and cawing loudly (regularly around sunset) in #SanFrancisco before.

This Autumn it’s been almost every evening. Any bird fanciers know why this is happening? Thanks in advance if you do.
