Okay, picking up from my video game post yesterday, I'm curious:
When you play video games, rpgs, ect, where you get to choose your character, do you tend to choose a character of the same sex, the opposite sex, non-binary, anthropomorphic, or a mysterious 4th option?
If you want to share screenshots of character builds I would enjoy that!
I was recently introduced by @clacke to Rod Hilton's Star Wars Machete Order which suggests the best way to watch the first couple Star Wars trilogies is in a specific order omitting Star Wars: Episode I (1999), and this quote from the blog article made me realize why I have enjoyed Episode I against a majority opinion:
Some people claim that Episode I isn’t that bad, and shouldn’t be removed (again, it’s not that it’s bad, it’s that it’s not relevant to Luke’s journey in the way that Episode II and III are)
It seems to me that I like Episode I because I absolutely loathe Luke Skywalker's character and his stupid one-dimensional journey. Every other character gets to take risky decisions (Han Solo by smuggling, Leia by resisting the Empire from a position of privilege, the droids by carrying out Leia's orders) but Luke is simply railroaded into a tool for the Rebels to defeat the Empire, including by Obi-One Kenobi and Yoda, who spring into action against galactic tyranny only when the Chosen One cross their path.
In comparison, Episode I shows there are other people in the Universe (the Gungans, Sebulba, even Jar-Jar Binks), struggling with more local problems (the Trade Federation, even if manipulated by Palpatine, the pod racing championship) and have no care for the Force or the stupid Skywalker bloodline.
And with Star Wars: Rogue One (2016), it gives some substance to a larger universe that otherwise only cares about one single family in the entire galaxy.
My friend made a tool that can help you randomly generate a number of styles of (very good!) music of hand made loops, royalty-free for you, and includes an easy to use tracker.
You can take this test to see how "Normal" you are, and also how radically left wing you are! LOL Please share the results if you feel like it, or do nothing at all, because it really doesn't matter!
@RickiTarr This minimum wage question is loaded either way you answer it, so I had to pick neutral. Obviously we need a minimum wage, but one that is too low (like it is now) DOES do more harm than good. But abolishing it would be worse.
What does it take for the world to admit that what Israel is doing in Gaza is not a war against Hamas but execution of a planned destruction of everything in Gaza.
I wonder if there's grounds for taking legal action against Actiblizz here. This mandated return to office sounds like a case of constructive dismissal targeting disabled folks like those cited in the article.
I know personally several people who are immunocompromised that are going through a soft panic because they are genuinely worried they will be fired if they do not agree to constantly exist around Covid exposure.
It's either genuinely risk your life or lose your livelihood. WFH stats mean nothing to CEOs. Dont know why.
I don't play a lot of game on Steam. Mostly because what I want to play isn't on Mac and and don't play well on the Steam Deck because they requires a mouse. Most of my game playing happens on the Switch. The time spent on Monkey Island was all testing.
US patent office and #Sony can both go fuck themselves. This dangerous precedent set by #Nintendo and #Sega is only continuing on a worse and worse path.
Make no mistake - this is a CONSCIOUS ATTACK on #indiedev and smaller #gamedev to completely push them out of the market.
Okay, all you open source evangelist people: your knee-jerk reaction to come at people who are talking about a problem with whatever commercial software they use and suggest Your Favorite Alternatives™ is exactly like saying "why don't you just buy a house?" to someone complaining about their landlord.
EDIT: There's more than one post here. Pick apart the analogy if you will but... beware you'll be proving the point.
I was reading reviews about the new Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince game. Seems like performance issues plague this title, when those are fixed, I will probably give it a go despite some rating this game a 6/10. An average game with some fun elements is something I don't mind at all.
So what's the best real-time-with-pause RPG when it comes to mechanics and combat design?
With BG3 (haven't played yet) having gone turn based, I saw a lot of people talking online about how RTWP was dead. This has sparked a curiosity of mine as the only RTWP game I ever played with Final Fantasy XII (which I didn't like all that much, but seemed like an interesting direction.)
Is there a good example of RTWP games when it comes to combat design?
@eoinoneill ....which make them poor examples of RTWP.
Anything after that is basically indie failures like Serpent in the Staglands, with the exception of Pillars of Eternity.
The thing about Pillars, though, both are exceptionally micromanagey, even down to basically needing to turn on slow mode and control everyone's movement by hand. Still fun, but not really the ADnD implementation that works so well.
As pure gameplay, Icewind Dale wins. For story, Torment.
@eoinoneill You're welcome. Those original five you generally can't go wrong as long as you like the style. Knowing the rules helps, but it does a pretty good job of making it feel accessible.
There's some C code in the wikipedia page for "Hilbert Curve" and I would like to propose this code be removed from the "Hilbert Curve" page and moved to the "How Not to Comment Source Code" page
it's kinda crazy that the window management on MacOS (Finder etc) is still, for the most part, atrocious. I know there are plugins, and I do have a few, but I don't get why they don't make the UX experience better. It's a major thing that could improve a lot imo.
@djlink the fact that you have to press cmd+up to go up one level, and there is still no other way to do this, is so absurd and unusable they should be banned from tech
