Quand je vois que je suis capable d'éditer des toots vieux de plusieurs heures parce que j'y décèle une répétition, une virgule mal placée ou une formulation maladroite, je me dis que le bouton "edit" était une erreur.

(mais ne comptez pas sur moi pour me discipliner)

Question : de ce que je comprends du #fediverse, sont copiés sur le serveur de l'instance les messages avec lesquels tu interagis. Du coup, si je gère une instance, est-il légalement de mon devoir de modérer les messages racistes, sexistes etc. que quelqu'un d'extérieur enverrait à un membre de mon instance ?

J'en doute un peu, après tout je ne crois pas que tu sois responsable si tu reçois des insultes sur ta boîte mail. Et d'ailleurs, serait-il seulement possible de supprimer ces messages ?

@CorentinLamy Les réponses sont déjà très complètes mais j'ajouterais quelques petits points techniques, il est possible de régler le cache de l'instance pour s'auto détruire tous les jours et qu'autre titre d'hébergeur en vertu de la loi actuellement en place , la responsabilité juridique est dite limitée pour l'administrateur de la plateforme pour le contenu poster mais il est pleinement responsable de modérer le contenu litigieux dès son signalement. I keep seeing mods and admin in social media groups post, starting off with saying 'speaking as a person and not a mod..' or 'speaking without my mod hat on..' etc.

It highlights to me that they don't understand how power works. Once you take a role with authority over others, you can't effectively speak to those others outside of that role.

Power isn't a coat you can just pop on and off when it suits you - in fact, the (attempted) 'popping on and off' of that is actually an exercising of that power.

I wish we had a more nuanced and in-depth analysis of power structures behind social media groups and mod/admin status.

@aby I think you can extend it to any power related position. I always fear to have power because it allow me to do a lot of wrong and a few goods.

IMO, managing a community require to be an acitve part of it, not overseeing it like a benevolent dictator or some kind of god.
