So it sure looks like #Reddit is going to eat itself in the next week or so. The recent AMA from the CEO pretty much shows they are going the Twitter route. Trying to monetize a platform in a way that's going to drive the users away from it.

I had hoped that #Mastodon would be the thing that could replace both Reddit and Twitter, but without a federated #groups model, or proper #threading, or similar tools, it's not going to work.

So where y'all going?

Oh #dropbox - why do you consistently and regularly continue to fail?

My new #ios phone has Dropbox and I have Camera Uploads turned on. Even though I explictely have the 'okay to run in background' switch on the app, and I've rebooted, restarted the app, etc - It still won't upload in the background.

Only when I have the app open will it upload.

Dropbox on #android did not do this. I'm expecting somethink screwy in the IOS app by Dropbox that's refusing to let this happen.

You know for all the fuckery that's happened with Reddit, I could tolerate a lot of it if the new mobile client were not so incredibly painful to use.

I can deal with a lot of UI changes, but making it so the ONLY view you have across subreddits is 'best' is dreadful. Now it's just back to your standard popularity contest.

If it weren't for old.reddit.com and RES, I'd probably be done with them.

#3dprinting Tip o the Day. Obvious to most folks, I'm sure, but I had to test it.

The #BambuLab printers can do multiple colors - yay on that, but the slicer isn't smart enough to know that it could print several layers in one color, then switch filaments, then do multiple layers in the other - with clearance to navigate around printed stuff.

Which means the printer changes filament every layer.

Okay for small prints, but moving forward, I'll print each component separately.

Here's a quick way to export all your evernote data in #enex format, which remarkably, is easy to import into Apple Notes.

Evernote has been steadily declining for years - not being able to keep up with well designed changes and features in other tools. Their most recent hyper-focus on Tasks was an absolute disaster. This is no surprise, but is a little sad.

I just spent a little time updating https://mastodonstatus.com/ - unfortunately the account we use for UptimeRobot is limited to 50 entries, so I pick the 50 busiest Mastodon instances.

Anyway. I removed 2-3 dead instances and added a few new ones that've popped up.

If you are serious about a project, political position, legal action, social view, or other important topic, the respondse of "JOIN OUR DISCORD!!!!" - just labels you as unable to adult or be serious about the topic.

I feel like "Join our discord" is the 2020s version of "Join our facebook group!".
Echo chambers do nothing except validate the participants views, for good or bad.
