NEW: #Trump's lawyers, angry that Judge Engoron is apparently not going to allow motion practice on reducing his opinion to a formal judgment, demands a 30-day stay of any entered judgment instead. Shocked.
As Trump begs to stay enforcement of the not-yet-entered judgment, the AG’s office responds, reminding the court that Trump et al. already asked for that relief—and the court declined. Settle this now, and start the clock, they insist. #legal
@GottaLaff While this is all entertaining as the clown patrol continues, i still worry one of these things is going to stick. I don't think T has a prayer of winning in November, but its crystal clear his plan is to delay everything until he wins, then use the power of hte presidency to anull all his convictions and prosecutions.
Randomly #oddlysatisfying - this space heater had it's cord severed. It's fine otherwise. Little solder, little heat shrink, we're all good. Fixing shit. We enjoyz it. #makers#repair
Got to play some pinball and classic video games at Funspot in Laconia. Enormous arcade. Lots of good games and pinball tables. #pinball#retrogaming#videogames
This is explosive: Brexiteer ultras pushing a (non-working, failed to reach clinical trials) COVID vaccine tried to get MI5 to spy on the staff of the science journal "Nature", fomented an anti-science campaign via the Daily Telegraph, and createdand spread a conspiracy theory falsely blaming a Chinese biowar lab for creating COVID:
@cstross No worries, according to the INTERWERBZ, today when the US sets off their ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE TEST SIGNAL, eveyrone who has been vaxed will turn into zombies, so i guess been nice knowin ya?
You know for all the fuckery that's happened with Reddit, I could tolerate a lot of it if the new mobile client were not so incredibly painful to use.
I can deal with a lot of UI changes, but making it so the ONLY view you have across subreddits is 'best' is dreadful. Now it's just back to your standard popularity contest.
If it weren't for old.reddit.com and RES, I'd probably be done with them.
(Reminder that NIF is run by LLNL, a nuclear weapons research lab. It's just a work-around for the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, to allow tests of H-bomb plasma dynamics without setting off any bombs.)
@cstross Charlie, I love your work and respect your enormously, but I think... this might be a bit of a bitter take on the whole project.
Yes of course it's not parity. That wasn't the point. It's a research project to try and figure out if this is possible. It was never meant to be "switch it on and we're all golden."
I think "we're just doing this to build better fission bombs" is a bit cynical.
Earlier this year I missed a major history of computing anniversary the tech press didn't cover either. In January of 1983, 40 years ago, the Lotus 1-2-3 spreadsheet software was released.
Really? Incredibly cheap screws that fold when you try to drive them? Good thing I'm a screw-scrounge and have boxes of spares in the workshop... sheesh.
Driving screws into walls is one of my biggest fears - unreasonably so but it's there. The inability to cover up drywall damage when you get a screw wrong, the possibility of missing wood on the other side, and the 😱 😱 😱 😱 😱 of possibily hitting a water line makes me get the heebie jeebies everytime I start a project.
Good morning from the United States, where an entire political party is pretending that a conspiracy to upend an election is somehow protected by the First Amendment #uspol
@scalzi I just read an opinion piece on the National Review that is doing the "Biden's justice department is using indictments as a 'do over' because impeachment failed" thing.
@jamescooke The 'mute for x days' thing is magnificent. "Whoah whoah. Dude. I get it, this is hot now, but... can you just chill for a bit? I'll get back to you in a week or so.
