I have some coworkers and was telling them about how we used to take our car stereo face plates with us when we left the car back in the days when stereos weren't integrated into the dash and you wanted a nice one.

They were very amazed. So I made this meme.

In the end, it's all pedantic semantics, we got areas you can't access, a map to figure out, and level ups. Heck, that could be a turn-based JRPG!

It's all good. And my partner (a MV fan) is loving Animal Well!

@tess @polygon haha! That's 2DTD or Iso-3DTD! Those games are horrible. My partner loves them.

A recent fave? Deaths' Door. It's on switch, not sure about other platforms, but except for the perspective, yeah! It's pretty much a iso-3D metroidvania!

Heck, maybe even Zelda Link's Awakening is a 2DTD Metroidvania?!?!

@tess @polygon totally! Heck, even action RPGs! Look at Ys VIII. Big map, barriers to unlock, level up by finding folks (instead of tools/weapons) to access more, etc. Like, in the end, many many games are all variations on each other.

Side note: Also, like... why do 99% of all games have boss fights?

Side side note: Sweet baby jesus Octopath Traveler 2 is like ALL boss fights. Momma, I'm tiredddddd.......

@scribblemacher Yeah. It’s been interesting. Agnea’s final boss got me good, but I was under-leveled a touch. So did some tasks to get better weapons, did a little grinding, and boom, bobs your uncle. Next fight was easier. Hopefully when I get to the last one, I know it’s a long one, but hopefully we’ll all be good and ready.
