My Apple Card is expiring this summer, and the replacement physical card arrived in the mail today. Activating was super-duper easy—just bring it in close proximity to your iPhone and tap a button or two on screen. Done.

But what do I do with the old card? It's titanium so it's not easily destroyed.

I've had metal Amex cards since 2010 or so. When Amex sends a replacement card, they include a return envelope custom made for mailing them your expired card for recycling.

@gruber I haven't replaced any of my cards in a while (i ought to check their dates!) but I think the last time, I was encouraged to use the bank's app to photograph the new card and activate it nearly as easily.

But whatever NFC stuff that is sounds nice.

@gruber You'll appreciate this, or, you'll wish I hadn't sent this to you. In the HIG, Apple clearly states that primary buttons should be “on the trailing side”. Under Components > Menus and actions > Buttons, they include this image…

Do they do this just to confuse us? Or, am I misreading the HIG?

@gruber @cdevroe yeah, just clumsy. Even today on MacOS when you try to click and drag to select in a right-to left language (like arabic) you have to do it the language's way.

@ivory I wait on you getting text-replacements working on the Macintosh version.

Most other Catalyst apps can do it (well, Messages can). It's not just “teh” to “the” but like what I want … “numero” to “№”.

If you are on Ivory’s TestFlight, you should be able to try out our brand new share sheet on iOS and Mac. It's not perfect, but should be a huge improvement! Give it a try and let us know what you think.

You can access it by going to a page in your browser (or an image in your photo library), hitting the share icon, and then choosing Ivory's icon from the list.

@gruber A little detail about Apple Vision Pro sales: if sales are so bad, why hasn’t Apple made any move, zero, zilch, to release the thing outside the US. That’s the first thing to do if the device doesn’t sell.

Yet it remains US only.

@gruber @timbray I want to use the Logi Options+ software to map some navigation buttons on my trackball to page-up and page-down, and that's it.

Interestingly, it seems the auto-updater is what placed the spurious AI tmp folder, which I deleted.

I never even opened the updated control app until now, (with Finder even doing a gatekeeper check on it) and it first hawked the new AI feature, which I think I won't use. ai_overlay_tmp has not yet returned

    Like many people, I had my Apple ID locked last night, and it was a big hassle trying to get it unlocked and working again.

    One tip - when you go through all the rigmarole to get it going again, one thing that doesn't switch on by default is receiving iMessages or FaceTime calls via your Apple ID. So, like me, you will probably be missing messages until you reenable those in Settings. Also, if you send somebody a new iMessage it will default to your phone number which may not be what you want.

    @gedeonm @jamesthomson for me I did not change password at all (somewhere in settings it shows I changed it in 2019, which might be interesting if people have older passwords than that).

    But I did have to re-log-in in many apps on Mac. Music, AppStore, GameCenter Only once relogin on iOS.

    @gedeonm @jamesthomson On modern MacOS Sonoma, the iCloud login is clearly a jenga tower and it's not clear what's at the bottom but it is either App Store app or Music app (and I guess both for various tasks)

    Books, Podcasts, TV seem to rely on one or the other (prolly Music) to operate the credentials.
