TIL that if you cancel your Netflix sub and don't pick it up again within ten months, they'll delete your account, along with the ten years worth of viewing history attached to it. And they won't warn you they're about to do it.

@DJDarren do some jurisdictions require them to let you download your data? I expect even if they would provide that to you, they'd never let you re-import it if you re-activate later on. Hm.

    @schwa I use Bing for particular reasons … (to confound google and earn coupons, mainly)

    but lately it kept forcing your page to the alleged AI engine by default (by scrolling search results down). I found it took 3 different toggles in Bing settings to turn it off. This was like 3 weeks ago, so maybe it’s better now. Alas.

    @gruber @mathowie Just this spring, my parents (much to my surprise!) had watched a bunch of college basketball. They and I both live near-ish to Duke, but were rooting for underdog NC State in the men's tournament. But I also went over and watched the women's final with them. My mom, especially, never watches sports but she was enthralled. All sorts of new demographics opening up.

    I'll have to ask if they saw Caitlin on SNL last weekend.

    Spot on. And I'll add: It’s also a dev kit positioned as a consumer product, priced as an enterprise/industrial tool but without any of the features that enterprise/industry can use. The whole thing remains a mess and no amount of “whataboutism” or iPhone comparisons, as if we aren't living in a different time, will change the fact that this thing is DOA in its current form and positioning.

    You can overcome that: Apple Watch did. But this isn’t anything like iPhone.

    @gruber @dmnelson @jblake I cannot argue because I have never used an iOS device with a keyboard. But on the other hand, I feel like you have been strident in wishing more MacOS "gestures" (as it were) should be on iPad. But not the other way?

    Pressing a window up to the top of display for … a while … does enter a new mode on MacOS!

    My 12yo can't resist solving a Rubik's Cube if one is left unsolved. For April Fools' Day I super-glued a cheap, bad cube so it can't turn, and left it on the dining table ... 😂

    @danielpunkass @octothorpe @jackbrewster I sometimes see on r/puzzles (or alike) someone asking for rubiks help and the savants there will quickly determine a cube unsolvable, which impresses at least me. (intentional or accidental damage)

    @daringfireball I never really understood why this happened but maybe it is good exculpatory evidence nowadays. Even though they were identical to an Apple iPod (that was formatted for Windows) aside from the HP logo on the back, when someone brought one in to the Apple Store we had to tell them to get lost.

    @gruber Interesting to see that Apple’s style guide prohibits writing Apple Vision Pro as “Vision Pro” — even though their own travel case has it printed that way on the outside.

    @imanrastegari @gruber a sometimes overlooked aspect of that is the  character is only available on Apple devices and usually won't render on, say Windows, Linux, Android, etc.

    @gruber @pixelscience It's weird that some people ascribe Apple's anti-Nvidia stance to some pre-announcement before MacWorld back in the Power Mac G4 days. But years later, Nvidia made the very cool sorta-northbridge (sometimes used as GPU also) platform controller chip for all Macs from 2008 unibody MacBooks until Apple finally had to switch away from Core2Duo to like i5 / i7, etc in ~ 2011 / 2012 (which Nvidia didn't have a bus license for).
