At one time, I was trying to collect at least one painting from every coastal county in California. Matt Beard's pricing structure takes into account the number of miles he travels from home, the type of accommodations, and even if he encounters ticks or poison oak.
It's complicated.
So the further south the scene generally the more expensive. The SoCal pieces were the hardest for me to fill in.
This piece is named Escaping Santa Cruz Crowds: circa 1880.
It would have covered Santa Cruz County, but it didn't because it isn't mine.

@NorcalGma2 Looks like the Bixby Bridge in the background, which would put this in Monterey County near Big Sur. Bixby only has one arch, but the little island off the point matches. In any case, I really like that painting!

@NorcalGma2 Love it! Based on the title and my memory of the coastline, it probably shows a view from Highway 1 north of #SantaCruz where a fruit and honey vendor sets up shop by the side of the road. He puts out a hand-painted sign that reads “sweet cherries”. 😁

hey man, did you know that everything you post doesn't have to start off relatable and then turn into some weird attempt at a joke like and then I fucked some marshmallows on the end of the stork's beak, right? Right?

Happy #WorkbenchWednesday to all those who celebrate. This week, I learned how to resize traces in EasyEDA and did a test run at 0.7 mm. Haven’t done continuity tests on every trace, but I’m guessing that this is going to be a smidge too narrow. Still, good progress.

Q: Why are you spending so much time on milling when you can get five perfect boards from JLCPCB in a week?” A: I want to get the hang of milling a known-good layout before I attempt something of my own design. #synthDIY

Just look at this handsome fellow I rescued from the sink drain! They appear to be a white-lined sphinx moth according to https://www.butterflyidentification.org/information.php?primary_name=white-lined-sphinx-moth. I put them outside on the jasmine plant, and they started shaking their wings rapidly, maybe to dry off? #KitchenCritters

Does anyone have any pointers for shipping prints? I have 11X17s and looking for a way to ship them out without damaging them, maybe a bubble mailer with the print sandwiched between 2 pieces of heavy stock cardboard?

@rotfarm I know that @smerp ships prints in tubes but I bet they also have some experience with flat packaging.

It’s #WorkbenchWednesday! What’s on your #synthDIY bench today?

I put together a new, smaller Gerber for testing circuit board milling params on my 3020-PRO Max. I think I can comfortably mill traces down to 0.7 mm wide with a 0.1 mm, 15 degree V bit at 0.07 mm depth. Now I need to go back to the LFO Gerber and see if I can widen the traces.

Five down, one to go… Finished the Bear Creek Half Marathon (13.1 miles, 3,088’ elevation gain) in 2:44, good enough for 3rd in my age group. Somehow I missed that there were three significant climbs, not two, so it took a little extra mental fortitude to get through the last couple of miles. Still, a good day, and I’m looking forward to Rocky Ridge in September! Traditional port-race brewery is Headlands in Lafayette; highly recommend their beers and ambiance.

Fentanyl overdoses kill over 100,000 Americans each year.

@JohnShirley2023 …including my nephew, Ben Mietz, who was 25 when he died. He was an amazing guitar player, smart, funny, and we miss him terribly, years later. Whatever you think of drug use, the only way to keep this from happening to your nephew is to make sure they test anything they use and keep naloxone in the house in the event of an overdose. https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/OPA/Pages/Communications-Toolkits/Fentanyl-Overdose-Prevention.aspx

Achievement unlocked: Three Burrito Meal Day

  1. Veggie breakfast burrito from Cat & Cloud (delicious!)
  2. Julio’s Burrito with tofu and vegetables from Little Tampico for lunch.
  3. Burrito salad for dinner. This is @Heather ‘s invention: an Amy’s bean and cheese burrito on a bed of lettuce with Tapatio and fat-free ranch dressing. Feels healthy ‘cause lettuce. Definitely filling.

I formally apologize to future me who will be dealing with the consequences.

First attempt at milling a circuit board. I’m building musicdevghost’s Cha Cha VCLFO module https://github.com/musicdevghost/eurorack/tree/main/Cha%20Cha%20-%20VCLFO.

Alignment pin holes: ✅
Surface height mapping: ✅
Top-side traces: ❎

I need to create a test board with different trace and pad widths and test some depths/speeds to figure out if this board is even possible…

Spent the week in Lassen Volcanic National Park and Forest. Wow! What a beautiful place! We trailer-camped at Summit Lake and spent a lot of time in the western section of the park. Highlights for me were Mt Lassen peak, Manzanita Lake, and the Sulphur Works and Bumpass Hell geothermal areas. We also learned that the Pacific Crest Trail runs through the park. We found the trailhead in Old Station and day hiked a mile of the PCT. Met a few hikers and a gregarious trail angel named Bigfoot. 👍

A middle-aged man making an astonished face because he is standing in the middle of a snow field in July. He is wearing a baseball cap, yellow shirt, and sunglasses. Behind him is snow and a distant rock formation.
Looking down over the Bumpass Hell geothermal basin. The basin is a large area of white and yellow dirt with no vegetation, surrounded by pine trees and mountain shrubs. There are several blue-white pools of water in the basin, doubtless toxic and superheated.
