Buying this TASCAM recorder was a game changer and a real step up from using my phone to capture shows. Great recording of Swans from Tuesday night incoming (not to toot my own horn) #livemusic #taping #music #swans

Pretty gutted by the Sanborn news, may he rest in peace. I love smooth jazz, I also love old Night Music clips. Such a good decision to make Sanborn and Jools Holland musical directors of a national TV program.

Here's my capture of Béla Fleck: Rhythm, Raga & Rhapsody from last night at Carnegie Hall. Nothing fancy, just another Pixel internal mic recording. Nevertheless a proper souvenir from one of the best nights of music ever.

Grew up on a healthy diet of NOFX and Lagwagon so it looks like I'll be carving out time for a couple of days in Brockton this summer. Wonder who the mystery local Irish punk band will be? (it's definitely Dropkick Murphys)

#GreatAlbums1980s - #KingsX – Gretchen Goes to Nebraska (1989). The fate of hard rock (as distinct from metal) in the 80s was to be caught between polarities as bands toughed it out live while selling just enough units to survive. Kings X had their fans, though, and Gretchen anticipated the prog-metal boom of the 90s – also the moon-drenched harmonies of Alice in Chains. dUg and Ty Tabor are as adept at soulful melodies as bone-crushing rock, making Kings X a feast of variety.

Covid booster situation:

Walgreens sucks and I would go anywhere else if I could.

CVS sucks and I would go anywhere else if I could.

Rite Aid sucks and I would go anywhere else if I could.

They all suck and we cannot go anywhere else because they ran all the great independent pharmacies out of business.

Ok now that the smoke has cleared it's time for some offseason takes. Note I live in and root for the Blazers but I am first and foremost a fan of the game in general. Some thoughts post trade flurry:

I still have Denver at the top until someone beats them in a playoff series. I don't think even a lot of smart hoops watchers have really accepted how great that Nuggets team was. There are a lot of potentially great teams out there, but there's one that's already great, and it's Denver.

@fogelnet CD maxes out at 44.1/16 so the hi res downloads would be superior to a CD rip if you have a system that can play at 96/24

@fogelnet no prob. FWIW on a lot of equipment, the difference won't be discernible. You can't go wrong either way!

I am a Mickey Hart Respecter so big ups to the man on his birthday. While my favorite extended period of #GratefulDead music is the (second) single-drummer era of 1972-74 that was without him, I also love his contributions over the life of the band and equally his solo career output. My favorite of his side albums is the magnificent oddity Däfos with Airto Moreira and Flora Purim. I won't even bother linking to a streaming version. It should only be heard on vinyl or lossless digital (CD/FLAC)

nkLottery,

Remember Shakti - Live at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, Sept. 2003 - FLAC and MP3 downloads

A very beautiful, extremely clean audience recording made from the 8th row by a friend. The drum sound is particularly realistic I think.

Lineup for this tour was:

John McLaughlin - guitar, macbook pro
Zakir Hussein - tablas
U. Srinivas - Carnatic mandolin
V. Selvaganesh - kanjira, ghatam, mridangam

Strongly cosign the hype. Last time through twenty years ago was one of the best shows I've seen out of over a thousand lifetime. Peak experience. Seeing them again in a couple weeks and I couldn't be more thrilled. It is, as noted, pretty damn expensive, but if you can make it happen you should.

With #StopMakingSense in the news, this seems like a good time to repost the stunning Rome 1980 Talking Heads live concert video. Without taking anything away from that magical film, believe it or not, it was filmed after the band's live performance apex which I think is fully captured in this incredible hour-plus of #music. I love SMS, but to me this is better, and it's not even very close. You may not agree but every #TalkingHeads fan should def check it out!
