This millefiori bead is the product of a Mediterranean workshop. It was found in a woman's grave in Güttingen, dating around 600 AD.
It's one of the many pieces of evidence of north-south trade in the early Middle Ages.

Roman piece? A bronze figurine of found at the roadside station on the Brandsteig, Aichhalden-Rötenberg, where a votive altar dedicated to Diana Abnoba was found. were associated with Diana. The figurine may have been an offering to the goddess.

Some 1,500 years ago, a child was buried with a set of game pieces made of animal bones. Single game pieces are frequently found in early medieval graves in south-west Germany, but complete sets are rare.

Found in Herbolzheim, 500-550 AD.

This dog wasn't shot in a gravel pit: a burial of a . The beloved animal was buried with a vessel, its head was bedded on a piece of leather.

This funerary wreath is made of everlasting flowers (Helichrysum stoechas) and is more than 1,700 years old!
It was found in a tomb of the #Roman period in Hawara/#Egypt and has survived due to Egypt's dry climate.
Dating 2nd/3rd c. AD.

Silver inlaid #runes on an early #medieval iron spearhead, found in a burial at Wurmlingen, dating late 6th c. AD. The inscription reads DORIH - Dorich, a male name, probably the name of the owner or the blacksmith.

The Hohentwiel is one of the many bizarre volcanic formations of the Hegau region. The fortress up there is one of the largest in Germany. It was the residence of the Dukes of Swabia and Württemberg.

The unique Trichtingen torc consists of an iron core with a silver mantel. It’s too large and too heavy for human use (6.7kg), it was rather worn by a wooden cult image.
Dating 2nd/1st c. BC.

#Etruscan trumpet-shaped earring, dating 4th/3rd century BC. Hollow gold, decorated with filigree and pseudo granulation. Earrings such as this were popular from 5th to 3rd century BC.

For #RomanSiteSaturday the so-called Maison Carrée ("square
House"), a temple in Nîmes, southern France. Built in the late 1st c. BC, it's one of the best preserved #Roman temples. Throughout its history, the building has been used as a church, a horse stable, and a museum.
