Constitutional convention at my place. BYOB
In a weird fucking mood and just texted a friend up north to see if he wants to recreate the Eratosthenes experiment in the spring
My dog likes to hang upside down from my lap. Only mine.
Just sent more money to Joe. Jesus this is gonna be an expensive year.
The head-explodiness regarding the SCOTUS decision to take this case up leaves out that the Court has repeatedly found against Trump. They've never been in the bag for him. Some issues were a foregone conclusion: abortion and other conservative causes. But those decisions weren't made out of fealty to Trump. Most of the justices are conservative, not explicitly fascistic (maybe 2 get there).
The difference in tone between my Bluesky feed (don't you judge me) and this one is pretty stark tonight. You folks are pretty chill. It's good for my sanity.
Am currently waiting to get into the theater for band practice. Thought I might get to set up early. I can't. Someone is currently punishing a poor, defenseless trombone in there at the moment.
I am now encouraging folks to familiarize themselves with this vocabulary and these concepts when talking to others about the state of American politics and what you lose when you lose democracy:
After the Ingenuity helicopter's 72nd flight, NASA announced the end of the mission. The first few photos showed some chips missing from one of the rotor blades, but nothing that seemed like it would prevent it from going airborne again. New photos have revealed that the damage is more serious; it's missing one of its rotor blades entirely. A final image from Perseverance showed the wounded helicopter perched on a Martian dune.
AITA: This is a text I haven't sent to my band: "Hole's "Celebrity Skin" is infinitely better than Doja Cat's. DC's doesn't change anything musically as far as I hear, and the lyrics were changed to make it suitable for a Taco Bell commercial. I know I am at an age where Nine Inch Nails is being used to promote AARP, but you know, if we were to do, say, Closer, I'd rather not play the 'I want to play shuffleboard with you like an animal' version."
Just saw a video about the engineering behind the Parker Solar Probe. Dayum.
Going to get a chapter of reading in tonight. It's how I end the day pretty much always. Currently I'm reading a book by Lloyd Llywellyn-Jones (probably a Scotsman), The Persians: The Age of the Great Kings.
It's nice to have that reading-for-pleasure time blocked out every night, no matter what else I'm up to. Part of the ritual.
Killed my first Kerbal of the campaign. Apparently personal parachutes are not standard equipment for Kerbals in #KSP2. Bob Kerman splattered.
Some asshole is gonna try to sell them Bitcoin. You just watch.
Speaking of #KSP2, I got it not too long after release, but held off playing until some of the bugs had been worked out. It's much better now. Still a little weird, like when it told me that my spacecraft orbiting Kerbin had landed in the water and would not let me activate my engine. But I landed on the Mun and saw that they've built in some sort of story. A mysterious monument on the Mun. I landed about .5 km away, which I felt pretty good about.
One detail I appreciate about #KSP2 is the way the music becomes more dramatic when you're about to do something stupid.
To reward myself for not buying a new guitar, I bought myself a new delay pedal. Because delay pedal. On sale. Mine.
Sometimes in Aussie #Parliament, you can spot an MP holding paper over their head.
Thus, to get the speaker's attention, a top hat should be put on... except that no one ever remembers their #hat & so a piece of paper must suffice!
What is there to do in DC that I have not already done.as a normal tourist? I haven't been to the Spy Museum. That needs to happen. Where can I take my parents, one of whom has a scooter?
