I reckon Copilot+ PC is going to be a product that an entire class of professional just simply can't purchase or use for work. Thinking of , , etc.

Surely the "features" will be able to be disabled, but can anyone reasonably trust that?

This should basically be a legal requirement:
If you sell a piece of hardware that requires a cloud service to run you need to also provide a replacement that users can use when your company fails/shuts down/pivots whatever. It doesn't need all the fancy features but should keep the object in question's basic functionality working

Why does your credit score drop when you pay off a car loan?

A friend of mine was furious the other day, when he saw that paying off his car loan caused his score to drop about 40 points.

Why does this happen?

The official reason is that your credit score, in part, is based upon having a mix of different types of open credit—revolving, like credit cards; and installment, like auto and mortgage loans. If you close your last installment loan, this affects the "mix" in a way that drops your score.

And that leads us to the second reason: the credit bureaus have a financial interest in depressing your credit score, because they sell valuable marketing data about high-risk borrowers to subprime lenders.

The more high-risk files there are, the more money they make from subprime lenders. Low-risk borrowers just aren't as profitable.

Debt collectors don't have to prove anything to you.

There's only one time a debt collector has to prove anything, and it's never in response to a letter or other dispute from you.

The law does NOT require them to send you "proof" of the debt after you dispute.

It does not require them to send you proof of ownership.

It does not require them to send you a wet-ink contract.

It does not require them to send you anything at all, besides the most basic information about your account.

The only time they have to prove anything is... when they're in court.

If they sue you for the debt, then yes, they'll have to bring evidence of the debt and their right to collect.

But what if they don't sue you? What if you still want proof?

Then you find a way to sue them.

A lot of people think they can't be garnished but they don't really know what that means.

They've seen videos or read information telling them that certain income sources, like social security benefits, can't be garnished by a debt collector, and they think that makes them safe.

It's polite to respond to a letter.

But it's not required.

When you send a dispute letter to a debt collector, you might think they have a certain time limit to respond to you with the requested information.

A lot of people do think that.

But it's wrong.

A debt collector never has to respond to you if they don't want to.

They just have to stop collecting until they do.

So if you've sent a dispute letter and you're looking into an empty mailbox, it's likely they've just given up on you.

And sometimes, that's exactly what you want them to do.

It's a nasty surprise, and it comes from the worst possible place: your boss.

When a debt collector garnishes wages, the first person they have to tell is not you—it's your employer. So the garnishment is almost always a surprise.

Even worse, many people who get their wages garnished don't even realize there's a court case against them.
