🆕 video with thoughts on how we approached downsizing as part of our lifestyle and why.

Much of it comes down to asking if you have "enough" already. That question has changed my life for the better since I started asking it several years ago. ✌️

Decided to pop over to Twitter for the first time in a few weeks.

Main timeline: mostly ads and stuff I don’t care about
Following: less ads, but pretty sparse
Lists: kind the only way to use twitter at all now.

I can’t really see much reason to have an account there now.

kevinctofel,
@kevinctofel@hachyderm.io avatar

@mako Did the same last night and it took me all of 2 minutes to close the app. I decided to keep my account, mainly to surface my content but, as I found out last night, it’s still useful for identity.

I realized that Google had a knowledge panel for me and one of the ways to claim it was using two different social networks. Twitter was an option; Mastodon was not. So it came in handy for my claim.

“Google wants to take over the web”

"The threat here isn’t sci-fi fantasies of intelligent computers that could exist in the distant future; it’s what companies are doing today" https://www.disconnect.blog/p/google-wants-to-take-over-the-web

@baldur During the keynote, I was chatting with another indie web publisher. I said, “This is going to effectively kill our business model given how much traffic we rely upon from Google Search today”.

Thanks for sharing this article; it makes a similar point, among many other good ones. Glad I’ve been preparing for a new career! 🤓

🆕 blog post — I feel let down by Google's Pixel Tablet and Charging Speaker Dock

Digging into the details from #GoogleIO , I feel a little let down. #Google took a half-step forward here when it could have taken a full one when it comes to the smart home. https://staceyoniot.com/i-feek-let-down-by-googles-pixel-tablet-and-charging-speaker-dock/

Hop over to Dell’s site and you’ll see a new #ChromeOS laptop. The Dell Latitude 3445 #Chromebook is powered by newer #AMD Ryzen processors, some of which have AMD Radeon Navi2 Graphics. There’s no pricing or availability information yet but this 14-inch Dell Chromebook is definitely intriguing with AMD’s silicon inside.

So multifocal contact lenses are bullshit?

This is just "things are still blurry but now it's your fault somehow and also you're paying for it."

@backlon I gave them a go…. Twice with a several year break in between. I’m sure they work well for some but my brain couldn’t adapt to the “now use this eye’s image primarily” approach. Glasses since age 9, glasses likely until age 99 for me.

@kevinctofel Another option for smart open-only (tilt, not cord-raise) horizontal blinds. Sunsa Wands. I picked up 2 when they were in development and then 4 more as they went into general production:
