Bummer. Finally tested negative for #Covid yesterday, 11 days after symptoms began; now today it's positive again. A faint line but undeniable.

Listen, I know the universe doesn’t work this way. But I’m listening to a podcast and someone on the podcast says the word “mat” at the moment I am filling in the word “mat” in the crossword puzzle, it just feels weird! Yes, yes, every other word in the crossword puzzle, they didn’t say.

New studies show pasteurization inactivates bird flu in milk. Good thing, too, as cats have died (50% mortality) after drinking unpasteurized milk from infected cows.

@AskPippa The image is missing the most rare and compelling body that will be (probably) visible on the ecliptic at totality: Comet Pons-Brooks.

Way more fun than it ought to be. @aral has created this simple thing.

@aral I'm almost competent to read that code. Not quite maybe. I sometimes see the canvas clear to white in a single move. Is there a timer somewhere in there I missed?

@aral Seen this? Someone is playing Life in there.

@aral @ErikUden You probably know, but the site is not reachable now — various errors of the form "Unable to connect". Maybe it's just overloaded.

Today on Lesser Pi Day, dine on things that are approximately like pie, such as tarts, flatbread pizza, moon pies, perhaps large cookies. Hold off on the actual pie until Greater Pi Day, July 22.

3.14 differs from pi by .00159..., while 22/7 diverges by only .00126... My favorite pi approximation is 355/113, which comes within 1 part in nearly 10 million (but doesn't translate into a calendar date in any obvious way).

The first million digits of pi:

This afternoon my wife and I got our spring #booster #Covid shots. Changing it up this time, we opted for the #Novavax vaccine (a first), and to use the contralateral arm from our previous practice.

There is some research indicating that switching arms might boost the immune response, but the largest effect was seen when switching for the two shots of the initial series, not for boosts.

i always do web browsing in "private" mode in safari when on iOS, so i always "accept all" cookies bc i trash tabs often so the cookies are pretty much only good for that single site

is that good reasoning? for maintaining privacy

kdawson,
@kdawson@tldr.nettime.org avatar

@kellogh Yes, seems effective enough w.r.t. cookies. Problem is that there are a half dozen other ways sites track you, and I don't know how many of them private browsing blocks.

@kellogh Time comes, if you're at all competent, that you become less attractive as an employee. Unwilling to put up with BS, inclined to speak up and challenge authority. The balance tips. Time to go be on your own.

@shellsharks Kind of scrambles the incentive to star, dunnit? When I star a post it is with the expectation of gifting the poster with a small endorphin hit; and that expectation endows me with one too.

In this age of AI, I have a crazy idea: A person-made directory of sites that are individually crafted by individuals (think Yahoo! in the early days). No algorithms, just human edited directory lists. Would you visit such a site?
