The (other) Times is free this weekend and here's a fascinating book excerpt:

It is sad watching the scales fall from David French's eyes about the horrid hate fostered by his old white, evangelical church, the racist, right-wing Presbyterian break-off. Gift link:

At last, The Times covers the stakes of a Trump victory. Now keep going with the perils to women's control of their health, race, the courts, the environment, education, freedom of speech....

hankg,

@jeffjarvis ...and keep putting out front page stuff like this over and over and over again. One time doesn't cut it. It's the drumbeat. I'll settle for half of the "But her emails" intensity if they can't muster up that level because reasons...

@jeffjarvis "Vought, Short added, is embracing “tactics of growing government and using the levers of power in the federal bureaucracy to fight our political opponents.” <In other words...fascism.

jodyschmid,

@jeffjarvis this is a great article and everyone should read it! Rs are calling this “political strategy for razing long-standing guardrails ‘radical constitutionalism’.”

Note: Team Trump says that they need to raze the Constitution bc the “radical left” has supposedly “corrupted the nation’s laws and institutions.”

The choice is between democracy and facism. Vote blue!

Here it is again--journalists characterizing critics as "activists"--in a report on fighting in the NY Guild between said activists and those who wear the cloak of "independence."

Aldous Huxley, 1928:
"The sensible thing to do is not to revolt against the inevitable, but to use and modify it, to make it serve your purposes. Machines exist; let us exploit them to create beauty--a modern beauty, while we are about it. For we live in the twentieth century; let us frankly admit it and not pretend we live in the fifteenth."

@jeffjarvis Perfectly timed quotation. Not since the PC revolution has humanity faced a disruption like AI will inevitably bring. It’s not going away. We can tame and use it, or it will surely use us.

Beware a journalist who employs his own flacks. That's no journalist. That's a PR man--or activist.

@jeffjarvis We have to be personally accountable. Each of us has these weak-minded, violent fascists in our lives. It’s time to ask ourselves, what are we doing to shut these dangers down? Courage and action are called for now.
