ActivityPub was not invented in 2018, in fact it has a history of multiple protocol iterations since 2008 including OpenMicroBlogging and OStatus.

2010 another company named diaspora raised $200k to create another federated protocol. In 2018 #diaspora peaked at 1 Mio. users with 200 federated servers. Then the core dev decided to ignore #ActivityPub. That was the end.

Lets see how #Bluesky and #Nostr inventing the wheel again.

Upgraded toot.io to the latest beta to test the new search feature.

The search is opt-in and users can enable it in the privacy and reach tab to have the posts findable.

Currently indexing 40,663,353 rows with ETA 7 hours. Lets see how this turns out.

Second day running the full-text search feature means Elastic stores 500k posts using 250mb and 10%+ more background jobs b/c new posts getting indexed as well.

Currently just a bunch of instances running the nightly build, hence this will change soon after the 4.2 release.

Today we had the first DDoS attack of a Mastodon customer instance.

The attacker used 800+ different IPs located at OVH datacenter in France to bring one instance down.

All other customer instances running fine b/c we used isolated servers.

The Fediverse is still running fine, thats the beauty of a distributed network.
