As the Scientists Against Genocide Encampment enters its third night, MIT Jews for Ceasefire are holding a Seder. We are so proud to support these Jewish students and allies, embodying their values in the face of extreme censorship.

People around a table, drinking "wine" (or grape juice). One of MIT's main buildings is visible in the background.

A day before Passover begins, the rabbi at Columbia University in NYC tells his Jewish students to go home as the school cannot keep them safe after pro-Palestinian protestors on campus yell “Burn Tel Aviv to the ground!” and other pro-violence slogans supporting Hamas.

Germany’s out of hand, crazy version of anti-antisemitism continues in full swing. Last week cancellation of Nancy Fraser, this week that of the rector of Glasgow University.

Dr Ghassan Abu-Sittah, a British-Palestinian medic, has claimed he was invited to give a conference in Berlin about his work as a surgeon in Gaza but was denied entry to the country.

Just last week, Pelosi signed a letter urging Biden to halt military funding to Israel.

Today she... is whipping votes to do just that?

AIPAC’s Super PAC has pledged to spend $100 million in Democratic primaries targeting progressive incumbents who speak out for Palestinian rights — using money from Republican megadonors.

Inconceivable?

Wallace Shawn explains why it's beyond time to #RejectAIPAC:

Recently, we tried a bit of an experiment, guided by a core INN principle: we show up for ourselves & each other. A series of #CommunityNights, where we'd bring people together to share food, learn, & support each other to stay in the movement & bring our people with us.

ifnotnowboston,
@ifnotnowboston@mastodon.social avatar

So far, our Community Nights have featured a book club on Jewish utopias, a training on storytelling for organizing; an arts and crafts build, and more. We’ve been grateful to gather with so many of you and learn in so many different ways.

People in a large room clustered into smaller groups. Everyone seems to be engaged in animated conversation. There are some big sheets of paper in the wall with illustrated concepts.

#US / "Get it over quick"

Rep. Tim Walberg is wishing U.S. familes "a happy and most blessed Easter," and to the Palestinians caught in Gaza, he hope Israel would "get it over with quickly," and bomb Gaza ‘like Nagasaki and Hiroshima’

Tim Walberg, a Republican congressman from Michigan, made these comments during a gathering with a small group of his constituents, suggesting that Gaza should be subjected to nuclear bombing like Nagasaki and Hiroshima during World War II.

Walberg argued that the US should not spend money on humanitarian aid in Gaza and instead support Israel, which he referred to as the US's "greatest ally, arguably, anywhere in the world."

His comments have been widely criticized as a call for #genocide

Tim Walberg, a Republican congressman from Michigan, has a history of making controversial and incendiary comments, including questioning the validity of the #MeToo movement, suggesting that the impeachment inquiry into then-President Donald Trump was a "coup," and expressing skepticism about man-made climate change.

What is #LandDay?

"Every year on March 30, Palestinians observe Land Day, or Yom al-Ard, recalling the events of March 30, 1976, when six unarmed Palestinians were killed and more than 100 injured by Israeli forces during protests against Israel’s confiscation of Palestinian land."

Perry Bacon in the Washington Post (https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/03/26/squad-gaza-ceasefire-aipac-primary-races):

“Some of the best members of Congress could be ousted this year. They are facing huge spending campaigns against them, as punishment for taking positions not shared by the wealthy and powerful, most notably their strong opposition to Israel’s military actions in Gaza.

"I hope these members survive. They are the kind of politicians America really needs.”

Us too. And we're not just hoping. We're fighting back. 🧵

AIPAC says it's going to spend $100 million to defeat progressive candidates. That's a lot of money! But it’s not a show of strength. This group knows that it is losing the public, and its desperation is showing.

ifnotnowboston,
@ifnotnowboston@mastodon.social avatar

As if supporting an ongoing genocide wasn’t bad enough, AIPAC has endorsed over 100 insurrectionist Republicans, including proponents of the racist and antisemitic “Great Replacement” conspiracy theory.

They do not speak for us as Jews. They do not keep us safe.

ifnotnowboston,

It’s long past time to kick this right wing group and its malign influence out of our community, and out of the Democratic Party. Their campaign contributions should be as disqualifying as the NRA’s. And we’re going to make it happen.
