Miyazaki Hayao’s 2008 崖の上のポニョ aka Ponyo blew me away with its incredible hand-drawn artwork, laugh-out-loud humor, loving details, themes & motifs, everything. Yet despite critical acclaim & box office records many reviews went, “not one of his best but…” (as if Miyazaki’s movies were in competition with each other) and more of that “there’s no real conflict” nonsense mentioned before. Such a lovely movie! On top, リサ/Risa was instantly down on my all-time favorite movie characters list.

For a few days, I’m staying in a Singapore neighborhood I’m not yet familiar with. And let me tell you, #Goooglemaps is driving me screaming stone cold fuck insane. Accuracy is a pile of shit, okay, but on top it’s become a usability nightmare fresh from enshittification hell.

I’m getting desperate enough now to give Apple Maps another chance—which, when I tried it out once again about a year ago in the German city of Cologne, confidently sent me in the opposite direction of my destination.

Back in Singapore, where every attempt at blow-drying your hair into something recognizably human is made pointless within minutes by the humidity.

My major gripe, however, is that Singaporian 7-Eleven stores don’t sell onigiri, my primary day-time nutrient across East Asia 🙃

Then again, I’m also in love with Singaporian Kopi, Kopitiams, and Hawker Centers, which makes more than up for it ❤️🙂❤️

Technologically, still super meh.

Good:

• quote skeets
• link card selection/choice

Bad:

• no hashtags
• no bookmarks
• no editing
• no DM
• 300 characters max
• crap phone app only (no iPad)
• invite only

Mixed:

• domain handles, but you have to change your registrar’s DNS record

As for Automattic fixing to drop Tumblr, I have no idea into what that internal memo’s “600 person years since 2019” went. I’ve been maintaining two accounts for what feels like forever, and fuck nothing’s improved.

The backend is a hot mess that would make Hieronymus Bosch proud; my stream is drowning in shit ads; and the app feels as barebones as a beta release from 2002.

(BTW my respect for Automattic already tanked when they committed to pushing Gutenberg Hell to WP.)

I started working on Voidpunk’s world narrative in 2015; finished the 1st (episodic) novel in ’21, and just finished writing & dev-editing the 1st half of a follow-up novel.

Only two (2) renowned agents I’ve—unsuccessfully of course—pitched so far for the 1st. I’ll come to the reasons later!
