geekgrrl, to Sexism

"Some 80 per cent of men working with tech companies believe that women in the industry are treated equally, according to a recent survey.”

Also of note, seemingly over 80% of men are completely oblivious to rampant sexism.

Sorry for boosting that (now debunked) toothbrush botnet story. It just made me lol, and I didn’t do due diligence. I haz unboost. I sit in corner nao.

geekgrrl,

@binsk Yes. It was easily believable. “Of course they are being used!” Oops.

Hmm. Debating going back to .exchange for the following/follower management features as well as the automatic post deletion of Mastodon. I'll miss some of the niftier features of IceShrimp on .town, but I'm not sure how much. Maybe I'll just run them in parallel for a while.

How do you block mentions of “X” in @ivory ? Or @MonaApp ? Or w/e? Just X. No reference to Twitter.

I tried just “X” in Ivory, but it pulled up everything that contained an X.

Do not tell me I have to learn Regex. I will not survive. 💀

I’m not going to name and shame
but I am going to name and praise:

    The @w3c was hands down
the most pleasant job application I’ve done this year.

Clear job description with salary range ✔️

    No account creation required ✔️

No personalized essay or questionnaire required ✔️

No demanding of home address or phone number (why even ask that?) ✔️

They simply asked to send a resume and a cover letter by email 👍

    Thank you.
    This is the way.
    Would apply again.

    Every job application
    should be that simple 💚

Hello everyone. I know that these are tough times for many people. If you derive value from the fediverse and have the means to do so, please consider donating to support your instance. Most instances rely on donations to pay the bills (infosec.exchange and friends cost over $3000/month to host).

Instructions on how to donate are generally available on your instance's "about" page (for example: https://infosec.exchange/about)

Also, I firmly believe that access to the fediverse should not be tied to one's ability to pay, and I think it's even more important for those in difficult situations to maintain the social connections that the fediverse provides, so (at least in my view) donations are welcome, but not required in any way.

And for those people who already donate, my hats off to you. You make the fediverse possible. :blobheartcat:

    geekgrrl,

@jerry @grey @vpz There isn’t extra though, is there? I recall you saying donations don’t cover it all a while ago, I think…

Sometimes I want to post a reaction post in my own timeline about something someone else posts. I don’t because it’ll look like a subtoot (and may actually be one, albeit intentionally), and likely that person will see it.

It’d be like if someone posts how much they like green beans, and if I don’t, I might want to post myself that I can’t understand how anyone likes green beans and I hate them (ftr I don’t hate them, just an example).

I’m not sure anyone would care about that hypothetical post all that much out of context, but I’m not sure how to express a contrary opinion without seeming (to them) like I’m challenging the rightness of their opinion. I don’t have to agree with you for your opinion to be valid to you or others. I’m just trying to comment and add to the discussion, which is what I think we’re here for mostly.

    geekgrrl,

@binsk I have this happen a lot as well. I just want to comment on something they brought to mind. It’s in no other way connected to their item. I usually refrain, lest it be considered a challenge.

    geekgrrl,

@binsk Not sure it warrants a CW, however, everyone would have to somewhat acknowledge your statement in order to view the toot. Whereas with a parenthetical statement, they might gloss over it. So maybe?🤔

Is this "the first human-made textbook"?

Huge drawings of touchable animal tracks would be an ideal teaching tool for young hunters & trackers.

Some of the carvings are in a narrow crevice, almost like it was a "test" where the student could move through the prints identifying them by touch. (that's my guess for how they used it)

Some of the prints are from animals who no longer live in the region.

    https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0289560

    geekgrrl,

@futurebird “The experts were able to define the species, sex, age group and exact leg of the specific animal or human depicted in more than 90% of the engravings they analysed (N = 513).” [empasis mine] Wow. It is mind-blowing they could ascertain so much information! 😍

I don't hate being autistic - I like myself as a person. Yes, I could do without the laundry list of neurological disabilities, but I can live with them.

But I don't think I could hate being autistic in this specific world and society more than I do right now.

It's one thing to be physically sick and disabled, it's another thing to be repeatedly disliked and abandoned.

The former is constant physical pain, but the latter is constant emotional pain and is much harder.
