People using (and similar) don't even understand when I'm writing about situations.

If those services could be easily replaced by any Markdown edtor and a decent sync mechanism, why are they using those services in the first place? 🤷

I'm going to blog about that to make it more clearer.

garshol,

@publicvoit the only lock per se is the wrapper of your markdown files. I see all the features and the “lock” that would imply.

You’re still free to use whatever you want. I don’t get why this would be a problem?

The features of obsidian is cool and all, but really not necessary for markdown to be a good format to take notes in.

Looks like Nobara Linux is number 2 to make the jump to KDE 6, right behind Arch.

I ran a software update today and there it was.

A warning to you folks who like to customize their desktops: 99.9% of the available KDE global themes currently do NOT work with KDE 6. As I write this, there are only 20 themes available, and I had issues downloading some of them.

garshol,

@RockyC what Are rye immediate differensial that you see and feel? Want to update my Nix config to get Plasma 6.

garshol,

@forteller helt rått! Hvilke podcast om man kan spørre?

garshol,

@forteller @BorgeForteller kult! Gleder meg til å høre, men du er ikke på indeks som feks Fountain har tilgang til. Vurdert å aktivere en slik indeks?

C'mon, this was hardly acceptable 15 years ago, it's just plain crazy in 2023 when we have formats such as .

@sesivany they have lackluster support on any platform, not just Linux.

If some people say the is a left-progressive project, it only shows how successful we collectively are to block the Nazis. Loads of far-right instances and users exist in the fediverse. Gab, anyone? But defederation and blocking makes that part invisible to most of us. They still exist and federate amongst themselves. ActivityPub, the protocol, is neutral. We decide what we want and not want. The fediverse is a herd of Venn diagrams, not a closed circle.

garshol,

@jwildeboer the is a lot like how google imagined google+ circles to be. Just not owned by any one entity, thus far greater.

I have waited three months to share this with y’all.

In the fall of 2022, literally thousands of computers flooded eBay, with a brand name few knew, at a rock-bottom price of $59.99 plus shipping. A YouTuber did a video about them and the machines—2,200 in all—went viral.

Where did they come from? Why were there so many? I spent the last few months determining this answer. And well, it’s a story.

For @Motherboard, the story of the NABU Network: https://www.vice.com/en/article/ak3k34/2200-forgotten-vintage-computers-are-being-liberated-from-a-barn-in-massachusetts

I've been thinking about like, how we have the Blind Shell phone, the Victor Reader, and the new BrailleSense Reader thing. And you know, I'm starting to get it. I'm starting to feel it. When the trend is towards the lowest common accessibility possible that can still be called accessible, when frameworks and PWA2AppStore framework number 16 comes out and has messy accessibility, or relies on developers to already have knowledge of how to make stuff accessible, and when developers, or web, mobile, desktop, Linux are like "Oh no we don't have money or resources or time and a11y is specialized and specific", but yet can spend resources on UX/UI, then, well, why even bother. If developers won't listen, why should we deal with them? Why not just make our own tech and use Windows and phones for the blind? It's not like developers see any kind of value in us. It's not like blind people who develop software for these specialized devices and apps can't possibly develop for Linux/webFramework16 and so on, if developers cared enough to open that door for us. Oh hey y'all know when you call your bank, or your doctor, or the IRS, or your theropist, or just about any call center? Y'all know where a lot of blind people work? Yeah. That tech support person you talked to? That theropist? They just might be blind. And you know what they're using? Windows. And this might sound like fearmongering, but hell why not. Do you want your data stored on a Windows machine where Microsoft could slirp it up and send to OpenAI or use for ads just for you? And it's not the blind person's fault. Linux has got to take itself seriously, particularly on the desktop. So do all the other platforms, but at least with Linux you developers can help. Be like KDE and Fedora, who are at least looking into it, and KDE which is doing the work. How else will we own our own data?

garshol,

@devinprater is doing a good thing with . I just hope they continue, and wish that I could contribute to their mission in other ways than monetary. Maybe when I get some more time on my hands.
