I would love to agree but can't.

This text essentially suggests to give up and prepare for the apocalypse.

While I agree to the adaptation and preparation part, the system just won't let us any space left.

How could I tell my kids I gave up?

As far as I have experienced NGOs and initiatives like Extinction Rebellion, Just Stop Oil, Last Generation et al. they already ARE the very same people the text suggests to "Let’s focus on the people who are able to change".

the CRT is, just by chance due to available cables, connected to such an eastern-bloc machine (KC85/4) but the switch seems to be set to PAL.

Then again the wikipedia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KC_85) sounds a bit like it does PAL when it talks about some frequency, not sure that's related, so it might not be a SECAM machine.

I will re-cable and experiment with the switch again later today.

Remember: If you can't just draw a line on your screen it's not a "personal" computer at all.

Notice the coloring of whole characters or squares when only some pixels are drawn near it.

I guess it's due to some memory sensitive graphics color encoding in that KC-85/4, maybe @floooh can explain it, afair the #KC85/4 is his second home.

My 2020 project.

Let me call it #6502portable.

It closes the loop between my starting point in 1986 and now. Like a Terminator time line, just backwards.

It's an Atari 800XL on a USB powerbank, video output captured into a Raspi on a 2nd powerbank.

Visuals inspired by Alien movie where computers look like they should. Released in 1979, the year of Atari 800.

I have rarely felt more satisfied.
