Reduced my thoughts on Copilot+ PC, as announced, to a piece for Forbes.

TLDR: Also we should think about compliance with things like subpoenas and how completely can anything ever be deleted with such a system.

The more I think about it, the less this seems like a well thought-out product for pros. Dreamed up by coders that already have had their life’s work sucked up by GPT through .

Like, I love the LoTR movies, even the Hobbit joints.
But show me the Black or PoC characters...where are they?

dragonsidedd,
@dragonsidedd@sciencemastodon.com avatar

@Adam_Cadmon1 They are an allegory set in fantasy Medieval Central Europe.

One would expect Black characters there as much as one would expect White characters in fantasy Medieval Central Africa.

You receive a call on your phone.
The caller says they're from your bank and they're calling about a suspected fraud.

"Oh yeah," you think. Obvious scam, right?

The caller says "I'll send you an in-app notification to prove I'm calling from your bank."

Your phone buzzes. You tap the notification This is what you see.

Still think it is a scam?

  1. Who actually takes phone calls from numbers we don't know? Mine go to VM.

  2. Banking apps? Not a good idea. Phones are too ripe an attack surface and banks too poor at IT.

Forgive me mcc, for I have sinned. I have invoked a regular expression (inside a regular expression (inside a regex (inside a regex))). Yes, 4 layers deep. In my defense, it was in a winning entry of the Obfuscated Perl contest, not production code.

but the proof isn’t, “because it’s just linear algebra”, “just logits”, or “just” anything. that’s like saying the brain can’t be intelligent because it’s just electrical modulation. or vortices are just swirling fluid.

But ... !

a) You'd be amazed how amazingly poor OpSec people have generally, and criminals in particular. A shocking number of public social media posts including the accused and the corpus delicti come up in court documents.

b) Signal is easier for my Mom than Matrix.

Making more privacy the default in more apps is an unmitigated Good Thing.

Could you please clarify the sourcing? The only attribution is to "Olivia Belknap and Erin Batali MFT Trainees"; it's not immediately clear to me what "MFT" refers to. Did any specific academic or healthcare institution produce or review this?

A bullet point "Who are we?" would be very very useful.

The hate on Bluesky is on a completely different level. I'm Iraqi Moroccan Israeli Jewish and someone told me to get back to Brooklyn (where I have never been and have never known anyone in). Every single thing I say about my own family experience surviving the massacre is "debunked". You can't debunk my literal life experience lmao. I didn't say one word against Palestinians, I only said the victims of the massacre matter - this is literally all I've said, and I got neverending hate comments.

My first exposure to the mechanics of neoliberalism came in high school, when I sold consoles, phones, PDAs, cameras, and appliances for a certain blue and yellow retailer.

Managers would patrol the store with a little clipboard with hourly figures on how each department was succeeding, or not, at attaching high margin supplements to customer orders:

Cables, extended warranties, credit cards.

The store was brand new, with no baselines established. So a conspiracy emerged.

@AlwaysTheir @XmrLovingAncap I do not have a degree in Economics. I used to self-describe as an Austrian. I heard and read a lot about it.

However, I have had to note, ~3 years, we had:
a) stay-at-home + money printing
b) war in Europe + supply chain insanity
which led to
c) big inflation
... which Austrians all predicted would happen.
BUT WE ALSO HAD:
d) the inflation fall back to ~2%
e) the economy surge forward

At this point, "Austrians" need to explain why their theory fails so hard, Sry
