@mcc the main issue with snaps is that they are very Ubuntu specific and their distribution is completely controlled by canonical. The history of them has always felt like an attempt at locking developers into developing for Ubuntu specifically, rather than supporting the open and more distro-agnostic flatpak

It frustrates me that all digital video tech is so nonchalant about framerates.

I've got here some PAL format DVDs I'd like to digitize. I'd like to place them on our Plex and watch them later.

Things I can't figure out:

  • Is it better to digitize them at 25 fps and hope the playback device can do something with that, or 30 fps so it more natively matches the probable playback device?
  • Come to think of it, do native devices run at a multiple of 30 fps or a multiple of 29.97 fps?

@mcc I'm fairly certain pretty much any TV made in at least the last decade can do this. You may just have to enable refresh rate switching in the Plex player's settings

@mcc actually I have recently run into an issue with videos that were encoded at 58.82 fps (for some reason?) are being transcoded by Plex to 30 fps on my TV

I understand that people have different Needs and stuff but I just don't get someone trying Firefox and noticing Google's sites run slower on it and coming to the conclusion that Firefox is the problem and not Google.
