@blacktraffic@infosec.exchange

Just another hacker. He/him.

I only picked this handle because I'm semi-obsessed with Skunk Anansie.

My Erdős number is 4.

Mmmm. I love the smell of technical debt in the morning.

blacktraffic,

@SecurityWriter as in you threaten to kneecap people until they repay?

Some more sight and sound of the Kenai River on the trail located in the Kenai Wildlife Refuge on the Kenai Peninsula. Soothing! #Alaska #KenaiRiverAlaska #KenaiWildlifeRefuge #AlaskaSummer

Video of the sound and sight of the Kenai River today

blacktraffic,

@MicheleV_AK the whole trip looks amazing!

Colour of the water makes it look like it’s coming off a glacier at some point upstream ?

What are the top 3 infosec books you recommend to anyone in the field?

@jrog404 zalewski / silence on the wire

So, who's next in the great tech bubble enshitification? My money is on github, but maybe Salesforce will fuck up slack

blacktraffic,

@mainframed767 I thought someone had already fucked up slack - you mean it’s meant to be like that?

This is the default zoom if I look up the Milton Keynes Hobbycraft store.

blacktraffic,

@SecureOwl I actually wanted to know what time it opened :)

I do red teams - attack a company like a real attacker might. No, we do not always get in. Sometime it costs more to get in than the potential reward for getting in. So you just need to make it uneconomic for attackers, or even just to be a bit better than similar companies. There is a huge degree of variation between worst and best.

And I’m sick of reading nonsense on this platform.

Police do whatever the fuck they want, no consequences, again and again.

"People think that GPUs and TPUs don't have CPU bugs and you can't have an overflow on them. But what they mean is 'oh, it's so hard to set up a debugger.'" -- Dave Aitel, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BarJCn4yChA&list=PLYvhPWR_XYJmh-qBNKUrlyjQYKBpCDZzB&index=1

blacktraffic,

@adamshostack i think I have the entirety of bird.makeup blocked, because if I wanted twitter I’d be on f—-ing twitter, and it messes up search results, as you have just discovered.

blacktraffic,

@adamshostack based on very limited sampling, I thought it was. E.g searching for azeria

blacktraffic,

@adamshostack personal capacity only.

I have a lot of respect for Ollie but it will never not be funny that his linked in headline ended “and NED”.

As more walls are raised around gardens and users are even more aggressively preyed upon by greedy corpo overlords, I feel it becomes an community responsibility to arm normal users, not just the tech-savvy, with knowledge and alternatives to break the cycle of exploitation we know drives this business model.

blacktraffic,

@mttaggart I was doing UNIX - MS interop late 90s early 2000s and imho, things are better than they were then. (Arguably hacking AD from kali comes under “interop” but I’m not counting that right now.)

#NoWorries has basically been absorbed into British slang now. I reckon you can blame Neighbours and Home And Away for that.

Also commonplace now is #Shonky and #Crook as in ill.

I have yet to hear average Brits call each other a #Galah or #Hoon but I live in hope.

#Aus #Aussification #Sociolinguistics

blacktraffic,

@Jyoti hooning more common as a verb. “Bogan” not widely used enough either tbqh.

An extension of the beautifully concise “Game recognizes Game” is that most people have never worked with others who are truly great (at what they do).

They then never expect more or demand more (or work for more) creating a reinforcing cycle.

blacktraffic,

@haroonmeer Parkinson says the mediocre hire even more mediocre people because they don’t want to feel threatened.

Had a conversation with my boyfriend about the ethics of using AI to improve one's work. This made me curious...

Teachers/instructors/professors/senpais/etc:

If your students wrote their own content, but used an AI to proofread or rephrase their work, do you consider the work "cheating" even if the AI didn't create the content it was editing?

blacktraffic,

@Codebender_Cate I don’t trust humans to rephrase my stuff, so I’d be worried about it changing the meaning. But then I’m a bit pedantic and I write technical reports.

I’d probably consider it cheating if it was done en masse, but if someone did it and then just took bits of phrasing they liked, I wouldn’t know.

i'm working on a thing with a terminal in a browser and I can't believe I wasted so much time in the past trying to find a Go library that could act as a backend for https://xtermjs.org/ when it seems so much easier just to write it myself from scratch? like I think it's literally just a few lines of Go gluing together https://github.com/creack/pty and https://github.com/gorilla/websocket, plus some code to resize the pty when the browser's screen resizes

blacktraffic,

@b0rk hands up who has ever googled some very obscure thing and found yourself in the first page. (Because I tend to do the same sorts of obscure things year after year)
