Departed Humour: GLitcH! Snail Speed

It was the year 2000 and a computer mouse cursor was creeping along like a snail in this showcase of a departed comic strip called GLitcH!

I wish #Apple would sort their keyboard out. The text correction is shockingly bad, especially when swiping to type. It’s to the point where I have to proofread everything I type.

Perfect example - it just corrected “proodread” to “progress” WTF??

I feel like #Android had this solved like many years ago.

adamsdesk,
@adamsdesk@fosstodon.org avatar

@kev I experience the same issue on Android with Samsung and why I've disabled this annoying feature for years. Now granted I've never used anything newer than Android 12.

I've been using DuckDuckGo as my main search engine for a while now. Lately, DDG seems to "correct" my searches. A LOT. I don't know if it's just me or if it's a universal thing, but when I type in a search sometimes not only the results aren't what I was looking for, but I see the query itself has been changed to something I didn't actually search for. It's INCREDIBLY frustrating. I just might have to find a new search engine if this keeps up.

adamsdesk,
@adamsdesk@fosstodon.org avatar

@mike Really? Can you give an example as I would like to try this. I've yet to experience this.

My search engine skills are failing me tonight. Does anybody know of a tool that will convert an HTML document into markdown? Linux obviously and CLI would be nice. I want to use it for a script.

adamsdesk,
@adamsdesk@fosstodon.org avatar

@mike I use Pandoc to do this quite frequently. If you are able to share the website maybe I could figure out why this is happening.

This is not far from the Granby Ranch ski area.

    1 hour later…

    Youngest: Dad, I’ve tidied my room and there’s only one Hot Wheels loop in there now. Come and look…

    Me: THAT’S MASSIVE!

    Him: Yeah (looking confused), but it’s only one loop.

    It never ceases to amaze me when I go to the stable and find fresh eggs in there. I don’t know why, I just think it’s incredibly cool that these little animals can produce an egg, every day.

    Also found 2 had been snuck into the pack of bedding straw. 🥚🐓🥚🐓

    Is there any text-based, ideally distributed monitoring software out there? I want a TUI that shows me (e.g. with green/red highlights) the reachability of hosts (simple ping checks) while I'm doing network maintenance. Like a really simple, curses based nagios? It would probably look like a bloomberg terminal.. (I know this wouldn't be too hard to implement.. but I can't really believe it's not already out there...) #linux #TUI #monitoring #network #networking #sysadmin #software #curses

    adamsdesk,
    @adamsdesk@fosstodon.org avatar

    @jlsksr I know of several network or system command line monitors. Unfortunately I'm not aware of one similar for event monitoring for servers that is a CLI. I would love to see one myself.

    Experiences anyone?

    @Uddelhexe It appears it is possible according to a few sources, but unofficially.

    Unfortunately the Clip Snap Paint hasn't been updated for 2 years though.

    Not what you wanted, but as an alternative Krita (https://krita.org) might fit.
