@thurrott Dave Cutler said only 20% of the original code from the first version of #WindowsNT is in #Windows11 today. Even he expects it to be rewritten and go down further. It’s interesting to think but in the next 10 years, what we know as Windows today might be a completely different operating system under the hood.
@thurrott True, the NT kernel is estimated around 1.5 to 2 million lines of code out of the estimated 50 million lines of the code base. That’s just 2% if my math is correct.
@Migueldeicaza I am planning to replace the vast majority of my home computing needs with a Vision Pro in 2027. Will use iPhone and it as my go to devices.
@markgurman I've committed to buying one in 2027. Just not interested in being an early adopter of such an expensive product. I'm trying to envision what the demo experience will be like at the #Apple Store.
@thurrott Windows is OK, but to be honest with you, I was working on a clients computer trying to troubleshoot an issue and a reminder of whats bad about Windows popped up on my laptop. It was installing updates on boot up, then it had to restart, then it had to a freaking a clean up and restart again. It created such an awkward moment. Honestly, the vast majority of people don't need a Windows PC for personal use these days. I'm slowly moving all my family over to Macs.
@thurrott I enjoyed my time in the program, but it certainly lost its value over the years especially with lack of summits and in person events. The ability to meet product teams and share real world feedback was critical.

Weird bug I’ve never seen with any previous iPhone I’ve owned: my iPhone 15 Pro stopped charging over USB-C. Tried multiple cables, multiple chargers, nothing.
Powered the iPhone off and back on, and it’s back to normal. But I can’t recall ever seeing an iPhone refuse to charge before. (iOS 17.0.3.)

@thurrott Well, we are talking about 10 to 15 year old products here. Microsoft is probably on the cusp of launching #Windows12 and would like to use #Windows11 and #Windows10 as the bare minimum.
Google's keynote really underscored just what a big deal advanced generative AI for voice, image, and text is when you have it built-in and on-device. There are a million little features you can build when you have this technology and can lean upon its creative strengths. It does further expose how out of touch and behind Siri is. This is what disruption looks like — the entire industry was caught flat-footed by GPT, but Apple's glacial pace of adaptation highlights a worrying vulnerability
@stroughtonsmith I have not found anything particularly sticky about digital assistants on any platform. They are fun for maybe the first few months or less, but the novelty wares off. What the iPhone in particular proves though is people like tangible objects that don’t change too much year over year. That’s why Google has to pay Apple 10 billion per year.
My #SUN#Solaris 10 #UNIX#vm running #WordPerfect 8. I feel this is a reality many of us have not come terms with, but UNIX is pretty much dead. Most of the videos on #YouTube about it are historical or experience videos. #Solaris 11.4 is next to unusable, I don't know what #Oracle did to it. I'm so glad I had grabbed this ISO of v10 before they took it over.
I’m gonna launch a few items of merch next year. They’re very cool and will appeal to a much wider reach than the “Snazzy Labs YouTube audience” so I want to sell them under a separate brand. But what on earth do I name the site/company/etc.? Names are hard…
