Both server and apps are open source, but we'll be limiting our beta to our "home server" for those that use our apps (self-host full stack).

The only issue I'm having with #Lemmy is that lemmy.world is clearly overloaded and I regularly get Cloudflare screens - more often than I got "You broke Reddit" pages on Reddit, which was a lot.

Might be time to create my own instance.

But when it works, it works great. It easily gives me the dopamine hit Reddit once did, and helps fill that void that Twitter once did in terms of making me feel up to date without being hit over the head with crap about things I don't want.

Lemmy is really the fediverse's secret weapon. The Mastoverse is good but it's been a year and I'm still missing certain things I thought were around the corner and/or were available via other means that do not work in practice. My shopping list for Mastodon features is, alas, growing, as I think many of the well intentioned "We shouldn't implement this" things were, with hindsight, bad calls. (Not blaming anyone, I just don't think they work.)

@selea Oh, I see. There's a paid Sync Ultra version that gets rid of that. Well, can't be too mad about that I guess. The dev went from having one of the biggest Reddit apps to nothing, so can't fault him too much for trying to monetize his work to keep it going. As long as that means quick updates and new features then I'm happy to pay it. Had a great experience with Sync for reddit for years.

I think the average person just simply doesn't care about their privacy.

In some of the music communities I’m in the content creators are already telling their userbase to go follow them on threads. They’re all talking about some kind of beef between Elon and Mark and the possibility of a boxing match… Mark was right to call the people he’s leaching off of fucking idiots.

@BraBraBra Convenience will always win out with the masses. There needs to be more tangible benefits for doing something more inconvenient than losing privacy for that to change.

Who knows how it'll work out at this point. I imagine there will be plenty bad with the good, but it's going to happen in some fashion so might as well try to hope for the best!
