Hey it's been a year since releasing dataFude and taking some time this morning to enjoy compiling the project and playing around. It's too bad there is zero interest in the app because, omg, it's one of the most useful and beautiful apps 🥰

@RobW Yeah. The templates & “Systems" they have, seem really neat. I made an account at the start of this year & haven't touched it since.

It's just too slow. Craft/Bear kinda spoiled me. 😅

Peak, timeless design with Realtime widgets.

Hopefully we see an API for this (at least on the Mac side of things), this coming .

Apple Clock Widget, with 60 "tick" marks around the edges, that animate around itself, completing a full minute cycle.

I'm going to lose my mind. I regret updating. I knew it was a troubling release. Even macOS 14.5 seems bad.

I can't tell if Apple changed some AVFoundation things, but stuff isn't "just working" anymore. 🤔

@dave I had a custom app that was interfacing with AVFoundation. Updated to 14.4 & it instantly broke.

Checked it out, and it's complaining about an unsupported framerate, that was previously working just fine.(ie a `1 with a timescale of 60), so 60FPS).

I can change it to 50 & it'll run, but it's not outputting/ingesting the video stream. 🤔

Welp… I want a new persistence layer for my SwiftUI app!

Part of me hopes SwiftData 2 will be leaps & bounds better, but waiting until June seems sooo far away.

Ideally something using the Observation framework, but I doubt that’s going to end well (for me). Any ideas?

(Read: performance has been a nightmare. It should’ve be this hard.)

I’ve landed myself back to this Repo, numerous times! I think at the end of the day, I’ll probably go with this one…

Sewing Site 🧵 is doing two interesting things with the UX:

  1. Clicking an avatar in the feed follows that account. It’s kinda annoying for me, since I’m used to clicking an avatar to go to the profile - but I’m sure it’s helping with retention. 🤝

  2. Encouraging people to record their posts as voice notes, which are then transcribed as the content to the post. Both are posted and when playing, the text fades in to match the audio. It’s very nicely done. 🎙️

Take note, Mastodon app developers.

@matt I think they recently changed the Avatar thing.

It used to be tappable, but if you hit the bottom right portion of it, then it would prompt you for a follow confirmation.

Now I suppose it’s just an auto-follow… 😬

Talking on the Voice Note part: I’m genuinely impressed! Getting speech-to-text is hard in general, but most models don’t do a word by word basis/timing. I’d love to know how they managed that one! 👀

Does ActivityPub support posts with more than 4 images? Mastodon is limited to 4, but Threads supports up to 10 I think (which is fantastic).

Wonder if we’ll get expanded support for more images here or if Mastodon will just chop off all images after 4?

I’m so torn. @Sketch just looks great. Native, dark mode, components.

My #Framer plan is up for renewal. Perhaps I should spend more time with that?

#Figma seems like the industry standard, but it feels like we’ve settled for less. (in some cases, it’s above & beyond.)

& I still boot up #Adobe XD almost daily. I have a serious dilemma.

Thoughts? 🤔

    I'm making @Marker, an app that helps content creators, streamers, & podcasters keep track of key moments!

    Eventually this will support VoDs, so students can "markdown" lectures, & YT videos, etc.

    Here's a little tidbit for your friday evening: The M1 Macbook Air is the most used Mac in the @telemetrydeck data set. And the iPhone 11 is the most used iPhone.

    Really feels like sitting down & using a computer (That typically isn't that portable), is a dying breed. Hm.

    @daniel True, it just & I hate to say it, but it kinda feels like we’re left behind.

    Don’t get me wrong, seeing Mac Studio/Pro with their massive SoCs, etc. are nice, but how is it that say the Mini doesn’t see an update until MONTHS later, compared to the laptops.

    It should be one of the first SKUs to get next generation Mx chips…

    Perhaps I’m overthinking it. Laptops are nice, but I just want desktops to get the same love. (& no, not the iMac!) 😅

    I have found a slight hitch in my plan to put my computer directly against the window.

    @daniel I have several eye issues, & learned the hard way, to not put anything we focus hard on, in front of a bright light source.

    An evenly lit wall is better than a blinding light!

    Now if only we could use some sort of LED display to “tint” the sun, via some tracking mechanism... 😂

    A year ago I was telling @christianselig that he was nominated. At that point I had only been working on my app for about two weeks. I never even imagined I would be a nominee a year later.

    I've spent so much time on my accessibility support and this means so much to me!

    Voting is for blind or low vision users, please.

    I cancelled @1password to move to Apple Passwords, but Apple's solution just isn't there yet. I don't feel confident to make that move. For instance, I moved passwords into a shared group but all of a sudden they're gone from the group. That shouldn't happen!

    I just renewed the subscription because 1Password is just a really super good solution! Thx @matt for that subscriptions blog post and for reintroducing the possibility that 1Password is actually worth paying for. 😄

    @tomk @1password @matt For as much flak 1PW gets, I’ve been in love with it, these past few years.

    I dabbled around with others, & always came back to 1PW. They’ve really nailed the UX, in a way the others haven’t.

    That matters. Especially when onboarding family members, etc.

    Something that really bothers me: It’s as if most of the internet doesn’t care how they present themselves.

    We all (hopefully) went to school, leaned grammar & yet, we act as if we haven’t.

    Punctuation matters. It helps us follow along & read.
