Finished with the Urbanmechs just in time for tomorrow’s Urbie Derby. I got to try a bunch of new things with these. Used both on the brush and through the airbrush, and the fanatic paints on a couple. First time I ever used the zenithal to guide where to go darker and lighter. Used Newsh after clear coating to bring out some panel lines. Really happy with how things turned out.

I’ve been messing around with my airbrush for a bit now, and finally had the chance to put #ArmyPainter #speedpaint through it. Had an interesting AB situation. I had done the one on the left using a regular brush and the one on the right through the airbrush. I probably went heavier than necessary (yay inexperience), but they look pretty comparable, particularly in the panel lines. I will airbrush base coat with speedpaints again. #miniaturepainting #battletech

Finally had everything I needed to dip a toe in airbrushing, and what better way to learn than priming? I used primer, thinned with their thinner for black. Learned a bunch about technique and maintenance. Used fanatic Matt White for the zenithal. It is so thick. Used thinner with it 50/50. Also learned you can’t mix the fanatic paint in the airbrush cup. Looking forward to trying speedpaint with the airbrush

Today is my sweet boy’s last day on earth. A retired racer, he came to us at 5 and has had a wonderful 8 years with us. He has been my constant companion since he came into our lives. We had a cancer scare 18 months ago, and he was diagnosed with a degenerative spinal condition 6 months ago. You would think I might have been able to get ready for this emotionally, but I am ill prepared. I know this is for the best, but that does not make it any easier.

Here's my glorious Tiamat mini model 3D printed and painted by one of my patrons!

You can get the files all here for this glorious lady: https://www.printables.com/model/41937-tiamat

They really knocked it out the ballpark with this one!

The Luddites were not anti-technology and their permanent cultural association with a reactionary anti-technological ideal is one of the great propaganda victories of the capital class.

@HeavenlyPossum Tim Harford’ Podcast, “Cautionary Tales,” recently had an episode on the Luddites: https://www.pushkin.fm/podcasts/cautionary-tales/general-ludds-rage-against-the-machines. I think his conclusions dovetail with your point.

Passkeys are great, but not safe from quantum computers. Dilithium could change that.

New approach combines ECDSA with post-quantum algorithm called Dilithium.

@arstechnica Now if they could crystallize the dilithium, THAT would be something.

Total student loan debt that would have been erased for millions of Americans: $400 billion

Total cost of the Trump tax cuts that largely benefited the wealthy and corporations: $1.9 trillion

This is what I mean when I say the system is rigged.

PhillGreen,
@PhillGreen@mastodon.social avatar

@rbreich I support student debt relief as a short term fix, but, without fixing how post-secondary education is funded in the first place, the fix is just temporary. The first step is electing democrats. The next steps are demanding more funding for state education and allowing student debt to be dischargeable in bankruptcy. I don’t know how to get universities to charge less, though.
