I'll benefit from the Stage 3 #tax cuts but I still don't agree with pitting the majority against a minority - Even if that minority is the wealthy.

It's a small step from that to pitting the majority against the most disliked minority du jour.

The planet wreckers are not the countries that are producing oil but those that are consuming it.

There's some crossover but IMO the major sources of oil (USA, Russia & Saudi Arabia) are no worse than major users of oil (Qatar, Kuwait, Canada & Australia).

Interest rates are a blunt tool that strikes at small section of society hardest. For rate rises to slow the economy they need to be large.

The government should look at better targeted methods to reduce the disparity between the winners & losers from their efforts to temper growth.

Truth in political advertising laws are a nice idea but MPs never admit to lying.

If after an election they don't want to do what they'd promised, they just tell you about how the circumstances have changed & how policies will have to change to adapt to the new conditions.

As I've mentioned before, I believe both sides in the dispute are pretty evil.

In the most recent flare up my sympathy is with Israel because it was the Hamas attack that broke the peace. Targeting fleeing civilians is totally unacceptable but IIRC Israel gave seven day's notice before starting the attacking.

There have always been YIMBYs who own large blocks of land & benefit from the higher demand that migration provides.

Cutting the migrant population would not be profitable for them but the effects on the environment of a lower population would all be positive.

Today is my 57th Birthday, but don't worry, I don't celebrate birthdays including my own. I don't celebrate any hallmark days, festival days, holy days or secular celebrations or commemorations. I won't ask you to donate to a cause or anything, but if you read this rant, then thank you.

I have no problem with others celebrating whatever they feel the need to. It's up to each of us to decide what is important to us as long as it doesn't hurt others.

I don't generally post my political/social opinions on here much. I prefer to post about the beauty of the world around me, my cats, and my hobby, chess. I think the world's natural beauty is worth celebrating but it is unfortunately being eroded by manmade means, and I will admit to some guilt regarding this as everyone probably should, though some are more guilty than others.

I woke up this morning to the news that a hospital had been bombed, war rages in Ukraine, fallout about the Voice Referendum still dominating the Australian news, and RWNJ's screwing up the USA, the World's most powerful country.

In the small print, a lot of species have become extinct, animal trafficking is still rife (cf Nigerian cache of pangolin skins), the World has seen record temps this year and violent hate crimes are happening across the globe.

I chose not to have children when I was younger. Growing populations, and my World dominated by the policies of Reagan and Thatcher, made me despair for the planet. When I was born the World population was under 3.5 billion, and it is now over 8 billion. Too many people clamouring for the World's precious resources, and I'm happy I didn't add to it!

It is my birthday, and I've had a pretty good life, comfortable and perhaps entitled. But being alive at this time is not something to be celebrated. We're fucking each other and the World up so tonight I'll have a drink but it will be a contemplative one rather than celebratory.

Thanks for bearing with me :)

Australia needs to learn to maintain submarines that can operate for an extended period.

The cost is exorbitant but you can't wait until we're in the situation Ukraine finds itself & then try to build a defence force.

At least we know that the Virginia class vessels work. The Collins class were too expensive, too noisy & too visible.

I hadn't heard of the polling company, The Redbridge Group that has been telling us that Labor is losing support & in trouble in Queensland so I looked it up.

Their site boasts of their ability to influence rather than accurately poll & predict results.
