So, it is possible for a group to make the collective decision to leave Twitter. Scientists "suffering insults and mass-spam are abandoning Twitter," and setting up shop on Mastodon.
"Glaciologist @Ruth_Mottram had more than 10,000 followers on Twitter but left in February and joined an alternative scientists' forum powered by Mastodon."
@ryanhoulihan@mmynatt There are actually a lot of 'valid excuses', especially for those who want to eat. Many Independent journalists simply can't throw their careers away to move to Mastodon. Twitter also offers a tight network of local politicians that no other social media network can come close to. Mastodon instances can unplug someone, or another server in a second, and make them lose a ton of followers, etc. Also the black community is very well-networked on Twitter. Just a few examples.
@cspcypher@ryanhoulihan I block every promoted service on Twitter. I'm seldom there, but when I am, I block the promoted accounts. I may retweet something once every month if that.
@maximum_mew Netflix caught me twice sharing to my Thai friends, so I told them they couldn't use it anymore. I canned Netflix after they double-downed on Chappelle. Now I pirate anything from them I want to see. Another annoying thing about Mastodon is this reply feature. I had to pull your Mastodon address to reply to the article you boosted. pfft
@arstechnica I canned Netflix after they double-downed on Chappelle. Canned Spotify when they signed Rogan. I'll pirate anything I want from Netflix. Don't tell anyone though. 😉
The Republican Fascist Party openly supports Nazis & millions of voters are like, hey! 👌 👍 ! Woot!
This is so beyond alarming, so beyond disturbing, so beyond dangerous.
Every so often it just hits me b/w the eyes how scary-bad it is. It’s, of course, why we got perm residency status in Canada, & no, I’m not “surprised” (How I hate that response). I saw this coming, sounded alarms all over Twitter & on air yrs ago.
But JHC I still can’t bear that it’s happening here so fast/easily #fascism
@GottaLaff I've been watching the devolution of the Republican party since Reagan and Limbaugh. Everything has now come to fruition. So many people were clueless to what was happening. Canada sounds so phucking nice.
Super proud #Minnesota dad today, in #Wisconsin for my daughter, a soon to be #uwmadison#uwgrad graduate. Feels funny to be in Camp Randall. A deserved happy day for the Class of 2023.
Things 'kick off' at noon.

The busses here in Bergen, Norway have usb ports and seatbelts, are seemingly used by everyone, are spotlessly clean, and most run every 10 min or less. Reason #323 that I will not be coming back to the USA 😝 someone plz ship me Smalltalk 🐱
@scottytrees@sommer I just added Estonia to my 'Moving' folder yesterday after seeing some photos and doing some research. Doubt I'll ever leave the country since I'm already reaching age 60, but I have a folder just in case I decide to. Wish I would have got out at age 18.
It used to be that one income could support a middle class family. Then Republicans gutted labor law and made it so the wealth transferred to the robber barons.
After that two working adults were needed to support a middle class family.
Now after more bad policy, Republicans are changing laws to force children to work, so it'll be three or more adults and kids to support a middle class family.
Republicans don't support the middle class. They never have and never will.
@bryanhansel I'm a 60s kid. Grew up in a lower middle class neighborhood full of stay-at-home moms. I'm sure that neighborhood doesn't come close to resembling that now. Those old homes sell for the mid 200s, and the working class in that area of NC have a difficult time getting in on 2 incomes, let alone one.
