It never ceases to amaze me how hard people shit on Mastodon. This post is from Bluesky, but like, I have used Twitter, Bluesky, and Mastodon and I find Mastodon to be the EASIEST out of all of them.

On Mastodon I don't worry about my post text limit. I type until I am satisfied. On Bluesky I have to carefully craft my words so they make sense but still fit in an arbitrary character count of 300.

Also Bluesky doesn't have:
DMs
Hashtags
Pinned posts
GIFs or video support
Post editing
And more!

So like, where is the competition? I don't understand why they think it is hard. I open Mastodon just like Twitter and post just like Twitter. It isn't any more of a hassle than any other program, in fact the character limit makes it less of a hassle. I feel like the mental gymnastics are strong here.

Apparently I got reported today for using the tag and not being blind. I was told by multiple people on Mastodon that if I didn't have the energy to do alt text for every image I could use this tag and someone would do it for me.

Instead I got reported to my instance owner. You all need to make up your fucking minds what is acceptable and what isn't if you want people to stay on mastodon. As it stands, I don't feel comfortable posting images anymore because if I don't have the energy to write alt text then I get shamed, if I used I get reported

You people make it so tiring that for someone like me with ADHD and Executive Dysfunction it is much easier to just not use Mastodon to post any images!!!!

I'd also like to touch on how people always shame others with "invisible" illnesses. I cannot escape it. Just because I am sighted does not mean I am not disabled in some ways. But people can't see ADHD and executive dysfunction, so I just get their personal diagnosis of 'LAZY'.

I can tell why artists aren't flocking here in droves.

I don't know what I am going to do going forward but I feel pretty fucking uncomfortable posting any images to Mastodon now lest I be shamed or reported or fediblocked because someone didn't like whatever about my posts.

I'd also like to thank the person who reported me for triggering my Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria, a common comorbidity of ADHD which I struggle with nearly every day.

@chloetse they didn't just give me a hard time they anonymously reported me to my instance owner, and who knows who else. I am a bit worried about frivolous fediblocks because I have friends who have already been fediblocked in a couple large instances for basically nothing, and it really cut his exposure. What's the point of using mastodon if no one can see your stuff??

But yes I agree, it should be there to help everyone and some people just don't have the mental energy or capacity to describe every image they post. The Alt4me tag serves an important purpose and not just for unsighted people!!

@FiStitchWitch I feel much better after receiving so much support from the community on this issue. I feel like the majority of people get it. I was actually shown the report and not only was it false, but it was not even detailed it was literally just "Alt4me should not be used this way" and they didn't even reference the post I made. Someone woke up and chose violence this morning.

I was told that they get a lot of reports from the main mastodon.social instance over petty things, normally reporting any porn or any furry stuff they see so I think the main mastodon instance may just have a problem with housing harassers.

Just a quick blanket response:

I will no longer be responding to any replies who suggest that I am "coming from a place of sighted privilege" (I know I have vision, thank you) or that I am somehow attacking the B/VI community because or some bullshit. The fact that I have gotten such an overwhelmingly positive response from this post shows that there is a large issue.

If this post didn't resonate with so many people, it would not have gotten the attention that it did. Even B/VI people are in the replies talking about how they agree that this is an issue.

This post isn't about B/VI people. We know we need to use Alt text. This post is about people being treated poorly because they cannot reliably produce Alt-Text. If you are coming at me for attacking the B/VI community then your anger is misplaced, as that is not what I am doing.

@raphaelmorgan I never mentioned hypocrisy or that it was coming directly from disabled people. The "You all" in my post is referring to people who use shame to try and force people to use Alt text, and also anyone scrolling the Alt4me tag looking for folks to report for "not using it right", which I would assume are mostly abled people who don't or refuse to understand people with invisible disabilities, while trying to white knight for those with visible ones.

@simon @Estrella thank you for your good advice! A lot of people have spoken up in regards to this post and it makes me happy to see that it seems like a majority agree that it isn't just for blind/vi people.

I have had a few naysayers but only like 3 and they don't seem to understand the point of the post so I just ignore them basically.

I am happy that my instance admin let me know, because of I am getting reported then I'm sure other people are as well and people need to wake up and realize this kind of usage of the report feature is NOT OKAY

Serious question: what is the vegan/plant-based solution for folks like me who want to eat more veg but can’t always tolerate them well due to IBD/etc? As much as I love beans/hummus/shrooms/tofu, I haven’t found anything quite so nutrient-dense and digestible as animal protein. Even shakes and supplements don’t really satiate my hunger.

Again, this is a serious question. In the past I have gotten such non-answers as “you’re making it up, no one is intolerant to plants” and “it’s just a stomachache” and “no one NEEDS meat, stop lying to yourself”, so I would appreciate some sincere and thoughtful dialogue on the issue. #vegan #vegetarian #chronicallyill #disability #ibd #crohns #plantbased #askmastodon

I just wanna put this out there. If you're reading this, are AMAB, and have like any sort of feelings like a "feminine" side, or you find that you use mainly female characters because it feels more comfortable, you should explore the possibility of being trans/non-binary ASAP

When I was younger I started making female characters more than male characters and it like completed something in me, kind of. But it wasn't enough, there was always this feeling of "but Im not actually female". The idea of me being attractive as a feminine person was impossible to imagine.

But that was just society LYING TO ME, like it does to all of us. Because I am attractive, and I would have been even more attractive back then if I had known it was possible. I could have not wasted so much time STRIVING TO BE MASCULINE. I regret it now.

If I knew that I could be trans and it would be okay and I would be attractive and feel as good as I do now, I would have done this years ago. If I could have gotten on puberty blockers I would have. Society stole a huge portion of my life with these lies. Don't fall for it.
