Not that I use them anymore anyway, cancelling my old account, but name and shame any companies who conveniently can’t support their free base. Also - it’s VNC. It’s a protocol. There’s a dozen free clients out there.
These companies are so short sighted. They are destroying the ability for the people who might push this software for use in a business environment to use it at home, test it out, learn it. This depletes the pool of experts and supporters that would expand their product’s use over time.
Microsoft and VMware are the worst offenders at the moment. I feel if you’re a competent on-premises Microsoft sysadmin you’ll have work for the rest of your life, because they aren’t MAKING on-premises Microsoft sysadmins anymore.
They are making Cloud Microsoft sysadmins, as opposed to on-premises sysadmins. Which means the new crop of admins are just high tier application admins, and have no idea how to manage infrastructure, configure hardware, or actually troubleshoot problems with the application, since they don’t have access to it at that level. All of this makes businesses more and more reliant on the cloud, which is exactly what these providers want.
Nah the crashes were due to criminal negligence by Boeing when they added control and navigation features that the pilots weren’t trained on how to use, how to disable, or even the fact that these new features existed. They also made the new automatic control feature (called MCAS) reliant on a single sensor. Guess what, then they had sensor failures on that single point of failure and the planes flew themselves into the ground while the pilots had no idea what was going on. Oh and the warning lights that would tell the pilots that something was wrong? Optional equipment, sold by Boeing. Neither of the carriers whose planes crashed had purchased that ‘optional’ safety package.
The lack of parts issue blew out a door in flight, but the plane didn’t crash and nobody was killed thankfully. But that started the investigation that showed how badly Boeing has been fucking up safety inspections for years now.
Agreed, I see signs of this with on-premises Sharepoint and Exchange moving to a “subscription edition” for the next release. And then at some point years later they’ll just say “we’re not renewing subscription edition licenses, migrate to the cloud or else”.
I’m Worker A, and I speak up when I get asked to implement something terrible. Sometimes it works, but usually they don’t care. At least I don’t lose my job over it.
I can’t imagine working in a place where you have to be in fear of speaking the truth. I have never suffered negative consequences at any company I’ve worked at for pointing out why a terrible idea is terrible, but I’ve seen plenty of people who are afraid to speak up. It puzzles me.
Hi everyone, I did stumble across adguard and was thinking about buying a family lifetime license (for the apps, not talking about adguard home here)....
We’ve got one cat 6months and the other 3months old, currently both using the litterbox. However we’re going to move to a new house soon, and eventually try to transition them to getting used to doing their business outdoors instead of the litterbox. Does anyone have any tips or best practices for this transition?...
Gamers like to make it sound like $70 is a new thing today for video games. When, I've seen adverts of games back in late 90s and early 90s that were priced $70. It's always been around so I find it ridiculous that so many of them complain that the pricing is too high when, it's been a thing....
I dunno, I seem to have misplaced my Comprehensive Encyclopedia of Game Prices by Week. :D
Just pointing out that back in the day it was not unusual to have the most desirable games cost $70 for a while. It wasn’t special editions / GOTY stuff - those type of things didn’t even exist yet. So I’d imagine whoever is downvoting you is an old curmudgeon like me that lived through the Dawn of Video Games like I did, and remembers this as not being uncommon. Hell, even normal NES games were $50 or so. I remember paying that much for Final Fantasy when it came out. Once you add in inflation, that’s an expensive game!
While I was in the shower, I thought of a brilliant idea! Let’s trigger several smaller volcanic eruptions that release a semi-controlled amount of volcanic ash into other atmosphere. That will cool down the atmosphere, which should buy us some time to fix our carbon emissions....
I just don’t believe them. And even if it works as described, they’ll change the terms quietly to screw you as soon as they need the next quarters line to go up. I’m tired of watching their every move to protect myself.
Been using it as my daily driver for a couple months now. And even though my day job involves Microsoft servers and enterprise applications, I’ve become an anti Microsoft advocate when it comes to consumer OS stuff.
I have finally decided to seriously start looking for a CB1100. It has been on my radar for 10 years, but I can finally justify it. I just need help deciding on which color it should get. I have some thoughts but I want others though without me coloring them....
Don’t pay attention to quacks. If the devil exists, there is no way a human being has any idea what he ‘knows’. So their entire ridiculous cartoon starts with a false premise and gets worse from there.
