What an absolute disaster that Republicans are still successfully playing their disgustingly cynical game of exploiting fears over antisemitism in order to advance their reactionary crusade – and mainstream institutions keep willfully playing along.
@tzimmer_history Join the rise of the North American Spring of 2024, support it through the summer and fall, then vote blue in Nov, then get right back to organizing and advocating.
Pecker testifies that, following his 2015 meeting w #Trump & Cohen, he met w ex-Nat Enquirer editor-in-chief Dylan Howard
Pecker outlined the arrangement & described it as "highly private & confidential."
Pecker asked Howard to notify the tabloid's bureau chiefs that any stories that came in about Trump or 2016 election must be vetted & brought to Pecker.
Pecker said it needed to stay a secret bc it was being carried out to help Trump's campaign

There aren't enough hours in the day to list all the "pur laine" "old stock" hate speech that drives Canadian RW politics coast to coast. So I don't know what Canada you're living in.
The wind can blow hard from the North across the Ottawa river too. But yes, not in 2024. At the moment, Quebec is mercifully immune to the rural western hate movement that got rooted in Ontario in 2018. Wait for it. Wait exactly one year.
I believe you had a convoy visit you recently? Them are modern puritans. Pure Freedom. Pure Ayn Rand. Pure Libertarian. Pure Old Stock.
So at 11:00 a.m. ET, #Trump posts on Truth Social calling Judge Merchan's courtroom a "kangaroo court" and calling on Merchan to recuse himself. Trump also assails the gag order, (falsely) claiming that he cannot defend himself.
This while we await a ruling from Judge Merchan on Trump's 10 violations of the #GagOrder... #TrumpTrial#legal
@GottaLaff What do we expect. Bannon is still advising him. So Trump floods the zone with shit. He WANTS to be carted off to a holding facility. He's mimicking the Falun Gong, inviting persecution. It's also the PBCC way.
I remember folks in the web community shunning me when I first started speaking out against Big Tech – because I was criticising their friends who worked at Google, Facebook, etc. – saying I was exaggerating things.
I wonder what the same folks think now given what we know about these very same corporations; given a number of them are actively enabling a genocide.
Am I still an alarmist?
(I understand if some of you are too busy working at one or debating the minutiae of CSS syntax to reply.)
I tested negative this morning, but have symptoms.
We've been out and about, and haven't been masking. Vaccinations up to date and no health issues, aside from Dad's age.
Sister's place, PWHL game, Dad visits his gf at the LTC home regularly, it's had a COVID outbreak, but I think it was a couple months ago...local restaurant, etc etc.
DJT was tanking (black line). If it hit $17.50 (red line) tomorrow Trump would lose >$1B stock bonus. Buyers stepped in to prop it up by $10 (yellow circle). Who?
It matters because of the way his $175M bond was structured. They wanted the state to accept a Schwab account that contained something other than cash. Something like ... bonus stock.
I'll be watching to see how experts chime in on whether SEC can do anything about this. I would assume so. My guess is they wouldn't do anything even if they could. But even this would be good to know.
If you're older, you've got to stop scaring kids & young voters with statements like "we need huge systemic changes". We do and we don't. They are left with the mistaken impression that we need a violent revolution. We don't need that & we don't want it. Although our western democracies are imperfect, they're good enough to get the job done - if we would only use the levers available to us. Taxation and regulation are very, very powerful tools. That's why conservatives want to take them away.
@gvwilson As you know, the cons play the long game, and making the campus conservative again has been an objective for decades. So yes. They take every inch they can get.
@paninid It occurs to me ... that these ridiculous stunts by MTG ... it's reminiscent of Canadian Pierre Poilievre, who we are asked to take seriously for leadership of the country. The two of them are following the same weird script.
In an interview with #RadioCanada, #Poilievre was noncommittal on whether #ChildCare, #DentalCare and #pharmacare would be dismantled by a government led by him — but he raised questions about the programs' effectiveness.
> “I’m more optimistic because we have been using the tool a lot, and some of the insights we’re starting to get from a scientific standpoint are things that none of our scientists were aware of,” he added.
@trochee
But you would expect algorithmic pattern detection to be useful in understanding high-order structure involved in receptorship, ie protein binding. I wouldn't chuck a tool like that just because its label has connotations in other contexts. Biochemistry has always been about envisioning binding structures. If AI can help, great.
@trochee
I read the piece (which is too brief) and I don't see him citing LLMs. I see you citing LLMs. Are you sure you're not the one doing the conflation?
We're a few days into the current wave of #TwitterMigration, and we're all excited for all the #NewHere folks to have joined.
But please be mindful you are joining a social network that was not a barren, desolate desert before. It was a blooming, cozy garden.
It's not just about finding your old connections from :birdsite: , it's also about making new valuable connections with folks on here, who might have moved years ago, or who might have never had an account on hellbird.
