The Lone Cypress
This iconic tree sits out on a granite cliff on the Monterey Peninsula and is said to be one of the most photographed trees in the United States.
Besides the tree and it's beautiful surroundings, I'm really amazed at the stone work around the tree.

Monterey Bay Sunrise

That's right, a sunrise image over the Pacific Ocean in California. This image was captured near Natural Bridges State Beach in Santa Cruz California in the early winter. The sun was low in the sky and rising south of this location. I was shooting southeast over the Monterey Bay. The sky was clear of any fog with just light clouds. Enchanted Valley

Yosemite Valley and more specifically, Yosemite Tunnel View is one of my most favorite places to watch the world go by. I could sit up here for hours watching people and nature both.
Wintertime bring out the most dramatic views. Storms pass through the valley unpredictably. High clouds and low fog mix regularly and snow can blanket the ground. Lake Michigan Sunset

Summer time on the lakes means long days and short nights and beautiful sunsets.
On a recent visit I had a chance to go sailing. Starting the day on Lake Charlevoix slowly drifting around the lake as the winds were low. We made our way out onto Lake Michigan The winds were calm but blowing enough to put the sail up and cruise around and catch the sunset. Goat Rock State Park

Just south of Jenner where the Russian River flows into the Pacific Ocean Goat Rock State Beach.
The drive out to Goat Rock is beautiful no matter what direction you come from. You can drive along the coast or drive along the Russian River.

Dock Of The Bay

Just North of the Golden Gate Bridge is a small city named Sausalito. Sausalito is a beautiful city with hillside homes and docks that stretch out into the bay.
At the north end of the city is an old military base and Coast Guard Station. I saw the repeating lines and patterns and saw how the light played with the water. I knew that I had to make this shot. Bristle Cone Pine Abstract

This is a close-up image of a Bristle Cone Pine Tree captured near the tree line on Wheeler Peak at Great Basin National Park in Nevada.
I chose to shoot this close-up so as to highlight the amazing swirls, bends, twist, and other growth patterns that these trees produce over their thousands year lifetimes.

Little Colorado River IV

One of the biggest suprises to me occurred on day 3 of our trip through Grand Canyon National Park was when we came across the Little Colorado River.
The water cascaded down over ledges and rocks as the turquoise water makes it's way downstream. This image is looking southwest towards the Colorado River.

Fishing Boats At Fishermans Wharf

Behind the restaurants off of Jefferson Street is the pier where the crab fleet docks. Most folks don't even walk back here, they just walk down the street looking for cheap trinkets and some fresh crab.

I was on a mission when I captured this image of a Red Barn in Levering Michigan. The mission was to capture pictures of old iconic barns.
This old barn reflects everything I was looking for in a barn, the color red, the big barn doors, out on the countryside in the middle of a green pasture with dark blue skies framing the building. Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is a 42 mile long shoreline of Lake Superior near Munising Michigan. The makeup of this shoreline is mainly sandstone with a couple of sand beaches dotting the shoreline.

Pt Reyes National Seashore II

Pt. Reyes National Seashore is roughly one and a half hours north of San Francisco. It could be a whole other world as far as environment, population, and attitude.
This is beach is on the northern shore of Pt. Reyes.

San Diego

San Diego is a really fun place. I have visited many times over the last 5-10 years and plan to go back often now that my daughter is living there.
Love the Gas Lamp District and Old Town is a fantastic place to grab a good Mexican dinner along with a margarita or a cold beer.
The area has many beaches and the weather is almost always just right.

Yosemite Chapel Portrait
This shot was captured during a break in a winter storm in Yosemite Valley.
The Chapel is the oldest building in Yosemite Valley being built in 1879. It's original location was the "Lower Valley" but was moved to it's current location in 1901.

Reflecting on Yosemite
I love this view of Yosemite Valley. This was captured in late fall along the Merced River. The river is running slow with barely a ripple.
The rock formation center left is known as Washington Column. Washington Column rises almost 1800 feet above the valley.

A Bunch Of Grapes

There is certainly a joy living near one of the most famous wine regions in the world. A trip to the vineyards is certainly one of them.

Deer Creek Falls

The Deer Creek is a wonderful oasis in the middle of the Grand Canyon.
Deer Creek Falls seems to came right out of the rocks For all purposes it might as well.

Havasu Creek III

As we made our way up to this beautiful creek we were given a little time to explore. I hiked up the creek a ways and found this beautiful little spot on Havasu Creek.
The water here was just amazing. The turqouise color water flowing over rocks and boulders was mesmerizing. Such a beautiful little oasis in the middle of the Grand Canyon. Redwall Cavern

We came across Redwall Cavern on our second day down the Colorado River. This is a huge cavern that had been carved out thousands of years ago by the erosive power of the Colorado River.
When John Wesley Powell discovered this cavern he estimated that it could hold 50,000 people. I would guess maybe half that number but still a very large cavern. Dogwood On The River

It's mid spring in Yosemite National Park. All of the snow has melted, the falls are flowing at their maximum rate, and the animals are running wild in the park. Down along the Merced River and throughout the valley the Dogwoods are blossoming.

Lake Tahoe Reflection
Early morning out on Lake Tahoe. The sun had risen and was low in the sky. The fires in Yosemite were still burning and the jet stream was carrying the smoke up to the Tahoe Basin. I couldn't shoot anything that was in the distance as the smoke made the skies to hazy.

Pt Cabrillo Light Station

On a recent visit to the North Coast of California and the beautiful Mendocino coastline my wife and I decided to check out the Pt. Cabrillo Light Station.
The trail down to the lighthouse is roughly a 1 mile walk. By the time we made it to the lighthouse the sun made an attempt to cut through the fog.

El Capitan II

El Capitan in Yosemite Valley is certainly one of my happy places. There are so many vantage point to see this amazing rock formation. One of my favorite places is from the valley floor. This granite monolith rises roughly 3000 feet above the valley floor.
