Anyone know of any printable #zines on digital #privacy ? I've got a small little workshop coming up and think something like that to hand out would be perfect :)
My #TheSundayStarter was a little bit something different this morning.
When I went into my Fediverse account, I saw that @puka_muriska followed me so I went to take a look at their account and went down the rabbit hole of their interactive zine.
A neighbor stopped me on my walk yesterday to say she bought one of my #zines from the local #bookstore and that she loves it.
Its called “If you do art today your house will be a mess (a love letter to my creative friends)”
It’s all about how it’s okay to let some things (like housework) slide to pursue other goals (like #art). She said she keeps it in her purse to help her remember to be #gentle with herself 🥰🥰💜💜
Lee Wilkins joins Elecia( @logicalelegance ) and Chris( @stoneymonster ) to talk about The Open Source Hardware Association, the Open Hardware Summit, and zine culture.
weekend read-in: the debut issue of dummy, dedicated to the art & oral history of pee wee's playhouse. absolutely inspiring to hear how paul reubens ran the show, making space for gary panter & other weirdo artists to essentially rewrite/redraw the folk iconography of children's television for a new generation. consider myself blessed for being the exact right age when it debuted. excited for dummy #2, too, about air pirates funnies. https://www.dummyzine.com@bookstodon#zines#comix#television
a couple of months ago, @terri posted about a thermal paper instant print camera and I thought "that sounds fun" and went about my day
a few weeks later, looking for a present for my inner artist child, I picked one up. and loved it! went on a photo walk every day for the first week and irregularly afterwards -- it's still in my daily bag. I collected some of my faves in daily sketchbook pages, and then started thinking about putting a few more of them together in one place
I've been practicing investing more time in my creative projects, and especially in letting my art be messy and imperfect, and showing it off anyway
y'know what's good for that? scissors, glue, and staples.
these are now on sale at Pegasus in downtown Berkeley! just in time for their Independent Bookstore Day event on Saturday -- win fabulous prizes while supporting your local booksellers and artists ❤️ https://www.pegasusbookstore.com/bookstore_day_2024
#NowReading - adored every damn page of steve waksman's "this ain't the summer of love," broadly about the unceasing #metal / #punk / #underground collision, but beautifully granular, connecting micro-scenes to #musicology. it equally brought alive conversations i know about in detail (punk), ones i don't (metal), & made me thirsty to read more #zines, listen to more #music, etc.. combined with his masterful "live music in america," i now wanna read everything waksman has written. @bookstodon
Where do 'zines belong, culturally & institutionally? How do "we" document & archive these sub-cultural artifacts?
'zines were a significant part of my adolescence & young adulthood from ~'84 through ~'96. Mostly for the music & art scenes. I may have "published" a couple 'lil tracts. Definitely contributed a bit o'terrible poetry, pics, and illustrations to a few of them(fortunately now lost & thankfully forgotten!).
I received these amazing zines from @inherentlee yesterday arvo 🥰😍💓❤️ Gender is complex and fascinating to explore. I have a neutral self image, sometimes dipping into one or the other. I’m a bit like a chameleon. I am not sure what other people see, or feel. When I mean gender neutral, I mean I am a person and gender isn’t something I think about. Especially when I am in a flow state. As an autistic person, I see gender as a way of being around people. #gender#zines#ActuallyAutistic
I'm a big Surfers fan from way back, was talking to @wendigo about em & remembered wifey recently bought me this book that came out a couple years back, 'What Does Regret Mean?' The book's great, it details a lot of their early shows, and has some cool art.
On the right is a reprint of an early zine they made that came with the book. That's the back, because the cover is GROSS (as are its contents). It consists of crude black & white collage art on some colored pages from a mix of sources, including nasty medical things. 😂
Howdy! New to this whole Mastodon thing (I'm not even sure what instance I should be on) but eager. Name's Bug — I'm a queer master's student in an entomology lab, passionate about scientific outreach.
When I’m not staring at insects, I spend my time creating zines, comics, other art, and playing D&D. I want to learn how to make video games. Let’s connect if you think little critters are cool!
I’m at Queer History South (#qhs2024) handing out #zines, #stickers, and #bracelets and generally making a spectacle of myself (all for love of Mapping Trans Joy)
More Desert Strories have been published! "Fumes of War" actually came out already last year. It was put out during october/november but I did not have any time to advertise it. So only less than half of the print (250) has been sold so far. But this weekend another issue of Desert Stories will be officially out! This issue is called "Work for Survival" and has again two stories written during my stay in Rojava. Both have also unpublished photos of mine.
And about the online sales - so far I only know that Black Mosquito will have both of them available soon.
Electrum Archive from @EmielBoven is some of the most fun I’ve had reading a setting and going through a TTRPG in recent memory. The layout, art and setting are all fantastic!
