As many of you know, I have worked for @novalauncher for 8 1/2 years. When I was hired, I was done so as a contractor and remained a contractor the entire time. Then two years ago, Branch Metrics acquired Nova and while I made the transition over, I was still a contractor due to Branch not having things setup to hire full time employees in the state of North Carolina. So for the entirety of my Nova Launcher career, I've been a contractor. (cont...)
Today, that has officially changed. Effective today I am finally considered a full-time employee for Branch and for Nova Launcher itself. This has been a very long time coming and something I've hoped to have happen and today is finally that day.
Job wise, nothing changes as I will still be doing the same thing(s) I've been doing for 8 1/2 years. The only things that do change are as follows. (cont...)
It's an early start to the day due to excitement on my behalf, so let's all discuss what the first day of the week has in store for us as well as the week ahead.
For me, it's some work stuff(more in a post coming up shortly), followed by more work stuff.
Video games tonight with family friends like we do each Monday and then just relaxing and enjoying the evening!
As the yen continues to hurtle downwards (it hit 155 yen to the US dollar this week), it's time to reconsider working in Japan unless you earn in USD. Here's why it's harder than ever to justify working here. (We wrote this in November 2022, but it's even more true today.)
How are we all doing today? Tell me about your day today, or what cool things you did during this past week or what awesome things you hope to do over the upcoming weekend.
Work stuff as usual here and with no meetings at all today, so that's nice.
For the weekend, no plans that I know of currently. Likely just stay home and relax.
Before I retired (and sometimes since) I have talked with students & ex-students about their careers & how they would like them to move in a different direction;
at the centre of most of their disquiet & aspiration for change(s) is a desire to be doing 'meaningful' work.
However, its not always clear (even to themselves) what that might actually mean. Here Caleb Althorpe (Trinity College) has a pretty good go at making sense of that desire.
Let's all talk about what our day is going to consist of today, or what it has already consisted of.
For me, I have a TON of work stuff along with three meetings today.
After that my wife will be taking me out to dinner for my birthday today. We'll be going to a place called Village Tavern that we've been to once that was really good.
