This is what I posted on the 404 story about the difference between .com and .org.

Hey 404 Crew. Thank you for fixing the last article on WordPress.com and Tumblr.com selling user data to OpenAI and MidJourney. Again in this article you were careful to mention that it's WordPress.com, owned by Automattic, not WordPress.org which is the open source project. But in your headlines you don't have the .com. So this is still spreading FUD. /1

So if anyone thought the entire #Automattic #AIPartnership shanda was going to reflect badly on Automattic's other products, after reading through dozens of Toots and blog posts, the answer is a resounding YES.

Only #Tumblr and #WordPressDotCom are affected by this. #Jetpack / #Akismet and the rest of the Automattic ecosystem are not.

#WordPress, the open source software, also known as ORG, is not.

Hoping someone official (Hello, Jetpack?) posts about this ASAP!

Can anyone from the WordPress Jetpack team comment on how the Enhanced Distrbution module, activated by default and feeds blog posts to the WordPress.com firehose, is affected by yesterday's WordPress.com new third-party sharing opt-in default setting?

And there it is, the announcement from WordPress.com about the tool for users to opt out from having their content gathered by third party platforms.

With the exception for AI crawlers WordPress.com partners with.

"We already discourage AI crawlers from gathering content from WordPress.com and will continue to do so, save for those with which we partner."

Hmm, WordPress.com turned off comments for this blog post?

I don't like the use of the word "fight" here, but this is a good overview of the issues and what's at stake.

In a weird twist, my older posts are now appearing in the Fediverse version of the DramaTea blog and my new post is not appearing 😂
What can I say the #wordpressdotcom and #ActivityPub integration with the #Fediverse is still a little rough around the edges. Comments are also not reliably appearing.
Looks like I am not moving away from brid.gy anytime soon.
