Summary of morning update from NWS Burlington: The winter storm is causing heavy snow in southern Vermont, with heaviest snow bands gradually shifting northward with 1” per hour snow rates. Mixed precipitation will affect southern #Vermont north to Rutland and Windsor counties. There is a risk of power outages due to heavy, wet snow and mixed precipitation, and there will be treacherous driving conditions. Storm will leave us with a tranquil Sunday. #Weather#VTwx
Well that didn’t go as planned lol. Turns out the blizzard that’s hitting Vermont this weekend decided to come a little early, so we had to scramble to get the camper packed today after making the drive from Ohio, then drive the rig to Albany through snow. We’ll finish this tomorrow, just glad to be parked away from the bulk of the snow.
" Bill that would make Vermont the first state to have a 'Climate Superfund' takes a key step forward
The #ClimateSuperfund Act directs the state treasurer to work with climate scientists to catalog the damage Vermont has seen due to #ClimateChange between 1995 and 2024 — and what it will cost to adapt to a warmer future with more volatile weather.
If the bill becomes law, #Vermont could start to seek damages in 2027."
Proud of my sister who created the innovative Vermont Language Justice Project which works to deliver critical health information via informational videos to immigrants in 18 languages.
About 10” (25cm) has fallen in the last 12 hours and it’s still falling. Wet and heavy. Supposed to get to well above freezing by the afternoon. #Vermont#SilentSunday#Snow
From NWS Burlington: “A Wind Advisory has been issued for the western slopes of the central Greens for a period of strong winds tonight, especially from 11 PM to 5 AM. Note that these winds combined with the weight of snow on tree limbs and power lines could increase the threat of downed power lines and power outages on Sunday.”
Spending much of my day as a volunteer election worker helping at the polls. Today is both the Vermont Presidential Primary (part of “Super Tuesday”) and also “Town Meeting Day ” where we vote on our town budget, school budget, and yes, for a new fire engine 🚒 and a new ambulance 🚑 🙂 . My particular role is a fairly easy one.. I stand near the tabulator machine in case there are issues with it.. and I give out stickers! 😃
In the Adirondack Mountains, high elevation bird populations have been declining thanks to #ClimateChange. It is time for the President to declare a #ClimateEmergency to stop the rise in temperatures. We also need to bring back the Civilian Conservation Corps. A CCC could hire people to help build habitat for these birds, reverse their decline, and allow soils to absorb more carbon. #Vermont#NewYorkhttps://www.adirondackexplorer.org/stories/mountain-birds-decline
The one interesting thing about living only 45 minutes south of the Canadian border is that our daughters now have a lot of experience going back and forth through border crossings, presenting passports, answering questions from serious border people, etc.
Not something they might have experienced as frequently if we lived in, say, Nebraska, or somewhere else more in the middle of the country.
Ah, the joys of weather changes in New England (and particularly #Vermont ). We’re starting off the day at 36 F (~2 C) but by 3:00pm we’ll be at 57 F! (~14 C)
Not a big deal if you work at home as I do. But if you work in an office, it creates a bit of a challenge in figuring out how to dress for the day. 🙂 (The keyword being “layers”)
Living in the East Coast?
Love live music and supporting artists?
I may be able to perform a live set with my piano at your event. It would be a 45 minutes set combining of all of my songs on #Bandcamp and many yet to be released. You can invite your friends and family, I'm also down to help out with making vegan foods and make a day of it. I'll be flying to Boston often and often be in Maine as well. Contact me if interested😊
