I hate Twitter but, to be honest, Mastodon feels a lot lonelier. I like learning, books, mental models, pens, pencils, paper, notebooks, tools, knots, DIY, EDC, productivity advice, coffee, beer, software development, Tolkien, rucking, soccer, chilly weather, etc. Where are my people at??
#Welcome! There are lots of folks here to build a new community.
I always recommend following @feditips and @feditips to discover all kinds of great things you can do in #Mastodon.
You will get more traffic if you follow accounts that you enjoy and if you use hashtags.
Hashtags are powerful here. Because there's no algorithm here shoving trolls and ads in your feed, the best way to get your toots noticed by others is to use hashtags.
You can even follow hashtags.
And you can edit posts! You might want to edit your toot to include hashtags like:
I wonder how many will pay. I'm not being facetious. At this point, I'm not sure enough have left #Twitter to make a dent in its cultural and sociopolitical impact and I'm concerned that competing platforms (e.g., #Mastodon, #Bluesky, #Threads) are losing each #TwitterMigrant back to #BirdSite.
Per Variety:"Elon Musk Suggests He Will Charge All X/Twitter Users a Fee to Be on the Platform”
Just a reminder to the new people from #twitter auto deletion of posts is a thing and can be auto scheduled in settings! Also we don’t call them “Tweets,” they are called “Toots” because we are just farting into the internet anyway.
You’ll also notice while things are similar they also are very different. If you chose to make your own server check out the fediblock hashtag to help find toxic servers to block
Welcome, new and returning #Mastodon users! You are not only on the right side of #history, but also in for a much better experience than you had on the #birdsite.
If you need help with anything, please reply to this post and I will do my best to see that you get it. 🙏
