Quite a while ago, Signal implemented a Stories feature – similar to WhatsApp's and Instagram's stories.
Yet, every single time anyone mentions #Signal Stories, there are so many extremely annoying Karens bragging about how they “immediately disabled that useless thing” and demanding #Stories to be removed.
First, you can literally disable Stories entirely. Second, why do you think YOU are the target group of Stories? If you don't like them, DON'T USE THEM. No reason to tell OTHERS not to.
From the start, I had a strong feeling that #Threads would experience instant success. I've been saying that it wouldn't be #Mastodon or #Bluesky that brings down #Twitter. Instead, it was clear to me that #Threads would be the one to dismantle Twitter completely.
Why am I so confident about this? Well, it's because #Meta holds a monopoly over the social connections of billions of people. The specific features or user interface of Threads don't really matter in the grand scheme of things. Ultimately, it all comes down to the social connections, and #Meta knows exactly how to exploit that.
Now, what about privacy concerns? Surprisingly, the majority of people don't seem to care much about it. Even after being warned for 20 years about #Meta's poor approach to privacy, most people continue to use their services without hesitation.
And what about #Meta's problematic moderation policies? It's the same story. The majority of people are willing to endure various issues if it means they can stay connected with their loved ones.
Not at all. There's one thing that #Meta can't control: slip-ups. Just like other big tech companies, #Meta will inevitably make mistakes. Threads will have its fair share of critics, just as #Facebook, #Instagram, and #WhatsApp do.
So where will those critics turn to? Well, if you've been keeping an eye on Twitter and #Reddit, it's likely that they will flock to the Fediverse. The Fediverse offers something no other service can: it cannot be owned by anyone.
Now, some people believe that once you start using #Meta's services, you'll never leave. But that's not necessarily true. People often realize they need something different when the time comes. And when people understand that they don't want their online lives to be owned as #Meta's intellectual property, they will seek out a solution.
Spoiler alert: the only viable solution that truly ensures ownership over your online life is the #ActivityPub-enabled Fediverse. This technology allows you to set up your own server within minutes, connecting you with millions of people, just like I did with atomicpoet.org.
Sure, billions of people might eventually join Threads. However, there will always be individuals who realize they'd rather not be under the control of Mark Zuckerberg. And for that reason, there will always be a demand for genuine online freedom on their own Fediverse server.
It's #Twitter and #Youtube that people seem to just not be able to ditch them. Because they simply don't have an aternative.
Youtube isban entirely differentbtopic, but one thing people miss about Twitter is the sheer amount of people to react to or will interact with their content. That's why, when #Mastodon was still small, it was deemed a failure.
#Threads has the conversion rate of #Meta and the features of Twitter. So they just might be able to do it.
The only downside I see is that it isn't as pseudononymous as people like from their micro-blogginf sites due to Meta wanting to connect your real name and other connectoins to your profiles.
Bizarrely, the Playstore is not letting me update #whatsapp on mobile data, though no problems with #signal .
I know I could work around this, but instead I'm just sending my few WhatsApp contacts a quick explainer and actively recruiting them to signal - they've all responded positively.
If only I could divest myself of messenger as easily without losing contactibility with my wider circle of friends and acquaintances.

Ich löste das #WhatsApp Problem insofern, indem ich meine Umgebung veranlasste #Signal zu installieren.
Und man kann mit #Signal gut kommunizieren - bei guter Internetverbindung sind Telefonate, auch ins Ausland, darüber sogar verständlicher, klarer.

I'm trying to determine if there's a #standard#serial#physical#layer in use here to communicate from one #MCU to the other. It's one-way communication.
The connection from one MCU to the other is a single #signal#wire, plus shared #power and #ground. It's a point-to-point link; there's no addressing involved. It's simplex, so no collision detection or anything complicated.
In fact, it's dirt-simple, and extremely low-bandwidth. The secondary MCU transmits a single #byte of data to the primary MCU approximately every 120ms. So ~70 bits per second, max.

Normalnie jestem załamany. Nie mogę przekonać JEDNEJ osoby do przejścia na #Signal czy #Matrix, a co dopiero grupę znajomych. Ich argumentem jest to (i otwarcie to mówią), że SĄ LENIWI (to ich słowa) i nie chce im się przeskakiwać pomiędzy kilkoma aplikacjami, bo „apki są po to, żeby były wygodne, a Messengera ma każdy”

Currently using #Signal and #Matrix with my main focus on Matrix because of it being decentralized, but I wish Matrix would be a bit better in regards to preventing metadata leakage.

@piotrfilipek nie jest to wykonalne w kilku przypadkach, np. w moim - jestem studentem studiów zaocznych online, przez co jestem zmuszony do korzystania z #Microsoft365, w szczególności z #Teams. Poza tym obecnie #Messenger i #Discord są również wymagane, abym mógł zachować kontakt z innymi studentami, bo przecież nie przekonam ponad 200 osób do przejścia na #Matrix czy nawet #Signal (nie mówiąc o innych znajomych). Niestety, odcięcie się od aplikacji gigantów oznacza także często odcięcie się od innych ludzi.

Positiv klingt zunächst: "Es werde nicht gespeichert, wer von A nach B fährt, sondern nur, wie stark die Verkehrsmittel ausgelastet sind. Für die Fahrgäste könnte das ein Nutzen sein, weil die Verkehrsunternehmen so für ausreichend Kapazitäten sorgen könnten."
Allerdings: Das Ticket wird wohl nur als Abo personalisiert erworben werden können, so dass darüber anfallende Personendaten zukünftig schnell integriert werden könnten. Mit Hinblick auf den aktuellen massiven Ausbau des Überwachungsstaats und der Kontrollgesellschaft in Deutschland und der EU (digitale Personenkennziffer/RegMod, Chatkontrolle, Identifizierungspflicht, Biometrie, eIDAS uvm) ist es doch auch gar nicht die Frage ob, sondern nur wann und mit welchem Vorwand (Anschläge, Pandemie, Jugendschutz, Wahlkampf) personalisierte Datenerfassung und Polizeizugriffe kommen werden, sobald die digitale Kontrollinfrastruktur erst einmal errichtet wurde.
