Raspberry Pi releases ‘Connect’ Linux tool for remote desktop access | BetaNews https://betanews.com/2024/05/07/raspberry-pi-connect-linux/

New blog post!

This one took weeks to write. It's about me finding a way to significantly reduce the power consumption of a Raspberry Pi Pico W working as a weather station, collecting environmental data.

I am also writing about powering the Pico using solar panels, and this time it's a success, my weather station can now run indefinitely, powered by the sun!

Probably idiot question.
If I were to make a #Mastodon bot* in #python as a learning project, do I need a machine running constantly to run it, or should I do it on a cloud service?
I got a #raspberrypi sitting around, would that do?

I appear to have MiniDexed (and circle) supporting ST7789 displays now, which means I can use a Pimoroni Pirate Audio with MiniDexed!

If you only need USB MIDI this is about as simple an option as it will be possible to have.

It would be a particularly neat, self-contained Pi Zero USB Gadget...

The Pico microcontroller from is pretty great because it's cheap, available, has two cores and PIO functionality, and last but not least because of the comprehensive documentation. Everything is collected here: https://datasheets.raspberrypi.com (search for "pico" on the page, see screenshot).

Hey, I never saw that hi res photo of the PicoW, interesting … click! >> https://datasheets.raspberrypi.com/picow/PicoW-HighRes.jpg

They just came today & don’t even have OSes yet, but I have already named these two “Chopper” and “Mixer” while it’s still May the 4th. They are for digital signage at a local restaurant, where Boil already serves.

They join Appo, Cody, Echo, Fives, Fox, Hardcase, Hevy, Hunter, Jesse, Omega, Rex, Tech, and Wolffe in my “regiment” of computers that I manage, all named after clones from Clone Wars.

And this is apparently my 5,000th post on Mastodon!

Whoever said a Raspberry Pi can't be a real NAS?

It's automated with Ansible, pulling ZFS snapshots from my beefy HL15 rackmount NAS, and it's sipping 8.5W while doing so. More to come, here's the story so far: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8EIs8s303k

@geerlingguy #sanoid & #syncoid are really neat. At some point I was even using a #raspberryPi 1 as a backup host, no need for a lot of power/bandwidth if you don't deal with terabytes of changes at once :)

This looks decent for powering a Raspberry Pi or equivalent off POE. https://jcutrer.com/iot/howto-power-a-raspberry-pi-poe

The Golden era of Mini PCs - more powerful and often less $ than a #RaspberryPi - because we are in the tail end of #Intel's monolithic die. Notice #AMD has no super value proposition low end chips to go into a ~$150ish mini! Why? Chiplets and fabrics. Intel missed this boat and when an i9 doesn't come out of the oven right they fuse off features and it becomes an i7, i5, i3, all the way down to the kind of amazing value n100 which you find in $120 PCs. Intel is onto chiplets now, era to end!

Just managed to finish editor version v0.11.0-alpha. It has bugs, some of which might be engine regressions, will try to fix them ASAP. It has Windows, x64 Linux, and aarch64 Linux (#raspberrypi) versions.

I’ve been rebuilding a installation that supports my classic Mac habit 😄

I used to use the awesome image which includes a ton of pre-configured software like . But it hasn’t been updated in a while so I used it as excuse to start from scratch.

I used this Pi Zero W as my starting point. HDMI video stopped working on it for unknown reasons. I added an Ethernet/USB hub hat and a 2 hat for devices.
