The last several nights about this time I'm getting DNS errors when accessing libranet.de. It works fine during the day(USA) but in the evening it starts up again. I tried switching from Google DNS to OpenDNS with no change in performance, but I don't have errors when I use Tor browser. I suspect it's no problem with the libranet.de , but I have no idea what it could be. @support
9.9.9.9, 149.112.112.112 bzw.
2620:fe::fe, 2620:fe::9
Und falls jemand #DoH schreibt, das gibt's da auch ;)
Es ist beruhigend zu sehen, dass gewisse Gerichte, hier das OLG Dresden, doch grundlegende Kenntnisse über die Funktionsweise des Internet zeigen. #Quad9
All this using @safing#portmaster with #spn and completely filtering out big tech while using Firefox and Mullvad and using #Quad9 as my DNS.
Online life is pretty good.
I cannot talk about online life without a shout out to #mojeek - try it, it's like taking the red pill for those living under big tech's watchful eye. @Mojeek
I've been using SPN pretty much exclusively for two months now and my only regret is that I did not start earlier. Using #Quad9 as my DNS server, blocking big tech, watching telemetry pings thanks to #Portmaster ...simply cannot recommend this enough.
What are some of the best DNS services out there? #quad9 looks good. I'm really interested in #foundationforappliedprivacy (FFAP) Does anyone have any experience with FFAP?
I'm moving all my VPS need to @OpenBSDAms. I've already moved my git server (#LinodeFreeSince2023) and my homepage (still on Vultr) is soon to follow.
This raised one problem. I like that OpenBSDAmsterdam is basically a small company a not some cross-continent conglomerate. I think I can move all my public compute needs there. This will leave me with a need of #DNS provider. I'm still using Vultr and it works great but when I move out of there, where should I go? Just use namecheap or is there some similarly small company doing the domain piping? I've looked at Dynamic DNS in the past (https://michal.sapka.me/2022/ddns/) but maybe someone can recommend me something that doesn't cost 60 usd per yer?
@ms@OpenBSDAms Both because I wanted my #DNS to be portable (if I ever wanted to switch providers) and because I was concerned about hosting companies monetizing DNS traffic, I opted to continue running my own server. One primary on an OpenBSD VPS running NSD, two secondaries at a friend’s ISP, forwarders at #Quad9. Works fine.
Quad9 does deserve our support.
But even better in terms of freedom is running your own local recursive resolver (e.g. #Unbound, possibly combined with #PiHole), which also allows you to do DNSSEC validation on/near the endpoint.
What VPN do you use to hide traffic from your ISP? (upload.wikimedia.org)
