Surprised I missed saying something on the exact date (Jan 25, 1994) but 30 years ago as of that date, my favorite album of all time was released. The Smithereens may be my favorite band overall & I love their albums, but my favorite album is Too High to Die by the Meat Puppets.
1994 was a great year for music. Superunknown, Jar of Flies, Downward Spiral, just everything else amazing from that year. Too High is incredible. I can always play it, any time of day or night. It's my teen years imprinting my music tastes for the rest of my life, and they have.
I'm a big Surfers fan from way back, was talking to @wendigo about em & remembered wifey recently bought me this book that came out a couple years back, 'What Does Regret Mean?' The book's great, it details a lot of their early shows, and has some cool art.
On the right is a reprint of an early zine they made that came with the book. That's the back, because the cover is GROSS (as are its contents). It consists of crude black & white collage art on some colored pages from a mix of sources, including nasty medical things. 😂
New, awesome discovery for #MusicWomenWednesday this week. They're called total wife, from Nashville, Tennessee, and they remind me of Poster Children, that dog, Sonic Youth, and even Portishead. It's fantastic. Shoegazey and catchy and spacey - wow. Really dig luna kupper's voice.
This is their album from 2017 I have #NowPlaying but they have stuff from before it and newer stuff, that's up next.
Coffin Torture are fantastic. I just listened to both of their albums again. It's this doomy, psychedelic riffy mix and this sound is NOT something that just any band can pull off well. I think someone here recommended them? I totally forget. Whoever you were, thank you, and if you see this, let me know!
Here's Coffin Torture's 2022 album 'Blennoid'. It is SUCH a banger. Hope we get a new one soon. 🔥
co-headlining spring tour dates for woods & avey tare of #AnimalCollective, a fun #indie#psych evening. laraaji on the #nyc bill (which unfortunately is at the knockdown center, that special combination of hard-to-reach location & bad sightlines).
I was going to wait until next Wednesday for Music Women Wednesday for this one, but I need to talk about this album right now.
'Precious Dream' by Hot Garbage came out today and I just finished listening to it. It's perfect. More than likely will make my top 20 this year unless 20 other amazing albums somehow surpass it. I doubt they will. Both Juliana and Alex Carlevaris sing, they're siblings. It's like psych, garage, post punk, shoegaze? But there's also some wild bluesy and dark country-ish vibes. It's amazing fuckin SONGWRITING is what it is. This is Hot Garbage's second album, now I gotta check out their first.
Iowa Senate File 538- gender transition procedures related to minors strips providers of Medicaid funding from Sept 18 forward and doesn't allow Medicaid to be used by clients for gender affirming treatment. If a counselor has a transgender client, and has used the gender dysphoria code and many others (7 pages of ICD codes) then they will be retroactively stripped of funding. I am so angry for clients and for providers. As a clinician, I feel so mad that states are telling transgender youth in lower SES that they can't be who they truly are, and now they can't even talk to a counselor. I just can't. @socialwork@Email2TootBot#SocialWork#psych#psychology#iowa#lgbtqia#transgender#transgenderrights#counseling#counselor#therapist#therapy
Can anyone recommend a particularly good chapter-in-text or other material for an introduction to logistic regression for an undergraduate statistics class in a Psychology dept? #rstats#academia#psych
