@bananabob@mdione@ehrba Gnome is similar enough while still being a bit different so that it doesn't feel like it's failing to be #OSX but also is laid out in a way that meshes with my habits. That's my comfort zone.
Also, Mac OS 9 Macs had so many killer features like:
Multiple Accounts
Voice Login
Themes
Keychain
PlainTalk
File sharing
USB Audio and printer sharing
Dual boot into 9 (Classic) and X.
Up to a G4 processor
#Windows and #OSX have a specular market share on Desktop #OS, in this latest months, and not only is a trend that is constant since 2009, where Windows user are migrating to OSX. #Linux is growing even if isn't visible in Feb 2024 + 4.03. this is for Linux is great!
Dear lazy web, what’s the best way to lock out a local account on osx? Change password is still the hack to use? There’s no dedicated function to lock an account in place to prevent desktop ui login for that user and allow easy unlocking later? #osx#macos#lockaccount
Hello Fedi peeps I am searching for some dev and consulting help in #iOS and #OSX in regards to frameworks and dev tools for my data viz product ZingChart’s new offering. We have something existing but my team is not as comfortable in this space and wants a local denizen of Apple world to help out. Open for part time, remote, consulting, etc. Reach out to me if interested in more details. #FediHire#FediJobs
Dites, les utilisateurs de macintosh et linux, est-ce qu'il y a moyen de créer une clé usb bootable OSX 10.11 El Capitan depuis linux ? J'ai l'image *.app mais ça ne marche ni avec dd ni avec etcher...

Am I the only #mac#osx user with a weird bug that seems to make most network connection attempts hang (while still letting some through). Only fixable by a reboot.
Seems like it might be some DNS fuckery, courtesy of Apple's increasingly overbearing attempts at controlling network traffic on my computer?
For those wanting to use their Chromebooks as actual computers running Windows or Linux instead of the toy ChromeOS, you should check out the Chrultrabook project.
Help. I would like to generate subtitles from my livestream recordings so I can then upload them to MakerTube as an SRT file and users can enable them.
I can't find any that don't cost an arm and a leg (considering my livestreams are 2 hours long, 8 times a month). Most of the ones I can find cost much much more than I can afford. Webcaptioner.com is discontinued.
Does anyone have any resources that won't break my already starving bank account?
So, if you use the Mac OS X Mail program and you've ever checked the "Log Connection Activity" box in Connection Doctor to troubleshoot something, MAKE SURE IT'S NOT STILL CHECKED.
The OS X Mail program doesn't have a maximum log size. It'll just keep adding to the log until you run out of disk space. Something was chewing up my free space all year and I couldn't identify it for the life of me. I also noticed that my mail program was sometimes rather slow.
Down to only 50GB left on my 2TB drive, I went hunting today and found a folder with nearly 300GB of stored log files!
Ouch. Runaway log files are the bane of every developer. They don't really add up to much for a short period of time, but you forget about them and either some freak event causes it to explode in size suddenly or it just methodically eats away at disk space until you have a crisis.
9 years ago on October 16, 2014, Apple released OS X Yosemite
Yosemite introduced a fresh and modern design, revamping the visual style of the operating system.
It also brought new features and improvements, including enhanced integration with iOS devices, a refined Notification Center, and Continuity, which allowed seamless transitions between Mac and iOS devices
