Been sitting on an idling #Southwest jet at #MKE for 3 hours due to weather delays and then a return to the gate for refueling. So after passing through the airport’s ‘Recombobulation Area’ earlier we’re discombobulated again.
What’s in Gallery 69 today? New “Warning Sign” mini print, some 3D printed “Pidgin” keychains, a stack of rocks, a ceramic vessel, some retro-reflective prints… FREE ART! Come and get it!

The Milwaukee Leader, a Socialist newspaper, didn't even waste the exterior of its delivery truck as a billboard for presenting the Socialist Party's message and urging people to join the party. This picture, believed to have been taken around 1932, urged observers to "Vote Socialist - for your children's sake; Vote Socialist - save civilization; Vote Socialist - abolish poverty; When you think of your home, your family your job. At the turn of the century, the area to the south of City Hall was known as City Hall Square. The statue of Henry Bergh and his dog standing in the square was as well known as City Hall itself. Bergh founded the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The fountain had a circular trough that served as a watering place for horses and other animals. People walked, rode bicycles or traveled in carriages or by streetcar. The stores ... https://tmblr.co/ZANp-QeH0CQwyi00#MKE#OldMKE
The signs of rebuilding were all there - barricades, ladders, sawhorses - and only the skylight, lamps and mezzanine give a clue as to where this picture was taken. Sharp eyed Downtowners will recognize it as the west end of the Plankinton Arcade in the Plankinton Building. This isn't a recent photo, however. It was taken in October, 1936. When plans for the arcade were originally announced in 1915, it was described as "a building which promises ... https://tmblr.co/ZANp-QeHmFZUaq00#MKE#OldMKE
The Plankinton Building, now the heart of Milwaukee’s Grand Avenue mall, originally was a two-story structure built in 1916 on the site of the old Plankinton House Hotel. Eight years later, construction got under way on a five-story addition. This photo, taken on Dec. 1, 1924, shows crews from the firm of S. M. Siesel well along in erecting the steel skeleton for what would be used as office space. The $1 million addition, designed by the Chicago ... https://tmblr.co/ZANp-QeHz_gtqm00#MKE#OldMKE
If you happen to be in Milwaukee this Saturday April 6th I'll be offering a bunch of my art for "Pay What You Want" but it's also to benefit a local food pantry program.
I felt pretty good this morning so got the bike out for a ride and managed to get 5 miles in under 30 minutes, which has been a goal for a while! Finally got my average speed over 10mph. Whew!
Friday May 31st, 2024 is Bay View Gallery Night in Milwaukee. Last time I just went up and down KK and didn't really stray from there but we'll see how it goes this time.
(I had hoped to show/sell my own art but couldn't find a venue willing to take me.)
